“No.” I said sternly. “She had her chances.”

“Fine.” Chris sighed, rolling his eyes at me. “At least try to be civil with her, man. The poor girl looks scared of you. I know you are not her biggest fan, but I know you would never hurt her. Maybe let her know that before she runs away in fear.“

My heart clenched painfully. I would never hurt her. I could never hurt her.

Before I could answer him, the door of the dining hall opened and she walked inside. She stared in front of herself with a sad look on her face. I could tell that she was lost in thought because she was biting her lower lip. She always bit her lower lip when she was sad or nervous.

Why was she sad? Did something happen? Did that fucker Oliver do something to her?!

My heart hammered in my chest as I watched her walk to the table where Hazel was sitting. She didn’t get anything to eat.

Why wasn’t she eating?

Hazel looked at her worriedly and asked her something. I saw her shaking her head, but I couldn’t see her face.

“I wonder how worried he would be if he actually loved his sister.” Jax said, making me look away from her.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “I’m not worried.”

Jax rolled his eyes and looked back down at his plate, shaking his head.

“I’ve known you for four years now, Mase.” Chris sighed. “You are going to drive yourself crazy if you continue like this, and it’s only been two days. Do something about it.”

I clenched my fists and looked away from him. My eyes found her again.

They were wrong. I wasn't worried, and I didn’t care. She hurt me, and she didn’t deserve my forgiveness.

I saw Hazel talking to her worriedly. They were too far away, and it was too loud in the hall, so I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Why was Hazel worried? Did something happen?

They stood up from the table, and I watched them walk away. She was staring at her feet the whole time, and I was sure she was going to bump into something or someone.

I didn’t care if she did.

The door behind them closed, and I looked away.

Chris and Jax were staring at me. Jax was smirking. Chris looked intrigued. He was probably thinking about a way to make me tell him what happened between us.

“What?” I grunted, picking up my tray and standing up.

“Nothing.” Chris shrugged, following me back to the counter.

We left the dining hall and started walking toward our next class when I was rudely interrupted by the school’s biggest slut, Monica Jacobs.

I hooked up with her once. The worst decision of my life. She hasn’t stopped bothering me since. I mean, I know I’m amazing in bed, but come on.

“Hey, Mase.” she said, running her hand down my chest.

“Monica.” I sighed, trying to step around her so I could run the fuck away.

I heard Jax and Chris groan in annoyance. They hated her as much as I did.

“Who is that little tramp you were with yesterday?” she asked, pouting. “I thought I was the only girl in your life.”

I clenched my fists. How dare she call her a tramp?!

“Monica, if you were the last girl on this planet, you still wouldn’t be the only girl in my life.” I sneered at her.

Chris and Jax laughed, and Monica gasped.

“How dare you, Mason?” she yelled. “The tramp shows up and suddenly you don’t want me anymore?! You can’t do that!”

I saw red.

I stepped closer to her, bending to her height, and getting into her face.

“Call her a tramp one more time, I dare you.” I said coldly.

Monica gulped, taking a step back. She was staring at me wide-eyed.

I took my chance and stepped around her, walking toward my next class.

I entered the classroom and my eyes found her immediately. She was staring at her desk, biting her lower lip. She didn’t look up when we entered.

Why was she sad? Why was she nervous? What was she thinking about? Did something happen? Did someone do something to her?

I sat down, placing the books on my desk. I looked at her, and nothing had changed. She was still staring at her desk, completely lost in thought.

What was wrong?

Well, I didn’t care.
