Destiny: New Light

It started with a signal.
In the early 2010's, humanity detected an outbound signal originating from somewhere within the Solar System.
Determined to find out what was out there, the three main superpowers of the world joined forces and dispatched a shuttle with three astronauts to Mars, to find the source of the signal, and make contact.
And they did.
We called it...The Traveller, and its arrival, changed us forever. Moving from planet to planet, it transformed them, making them all habitable. Great cities were built on Mars and Venus. Mercury became a garden world. Human life-span tripled.
It was a time of miracles.
We stared out at the galaxy and knew that it was our destiny to walk in the light of other stars.
But The Traveller had an enemy, a Darkness, which had hunted it for aeons across the black gulfs of space. Centuries after our Golden Age began, this Darkness found us.
And that was the end of everything.
But it was also...
A beginning.

It was a quiet day along the outskirts of the Cosmodrome in Old Russia. The harsh wind blew clouds of snow through the air, hitting the rusted cars that were piled up on what had once been a road. Now the concrete was completely buried under dirt and snow, leaving just the cars, as still and abandoned as they had first been centuries. Ahead of the cars, stretched a massive wall that ran both ways as far as the eye could see. Poking out from the beyond the wall were towering spires, three space shuttles attached to the side of each.
These were the remains of a long lost age, one that had been so abruptly halted centuries ago.
The Fallen called it the Whirlwind, and it was what had caused their own civilisation to fall, when The Great Machine left them when they needed it most.
The Fallen Captain, Rahn, shook his head free of his thoughts, knowing there was no point dwelling on the past. Instead, he focused on what the Archon had ordered him to do; scout the outskirts of the Cosmodrome for any potential resources. Rahn huffed to himself just quiet enough so the other troops nearby wouldn't hear his displeasure. What resources could be found here, beyond the wall? It was all just a barren wasteland for miles and miles outside the Cosmodrome, the old vehicles and splintered remains of human skeletons was more than enough proof.
Rahn leapt onto one of the cars and scanned the area with his four eyes, clicking his mandibles behind his rebreather in thought. His eyes widened in shock when he spotted a tiny white thing, drifting aimlessly across the wasteland ahead of him. It was no bigger than a human hand, scanning every car it went past with its robotic eye.
Rahn felt a shiver go down his spine, if that tiny robot thing was here, then those murderers weren't far behind.
Rahn lifted his gun to the sky and roared, two of his soldiers meeting him at his side, a Vandal and a Dreg. He pointed to the small robot and nodded to them. With another guttural shout, Rahn and the other Fallen jumped down from the car and chased after their new target.
