star: bite back harder

From across the table, DK cocked his head at her giggling in her spot, not even clued into the conversation. "Fontaine, are you drunk by any chance?" His low voice spoke out in a teasing tone, bringing everyone's attention to her. He was making an effort to treat her more nicely, no matter how uncomfortable it was for him.

"How dare you accuse me of such a thing!" she slurred, sticking her manicured finger into his face.

Each member of the table looked suspiciously down at the four empty glasses she was protecting like a mother hen. This was a first for all of them.

"What are y'all looking at you little dumplin's? I'm not drunk. I don't get drunk."

"Dumplin's," Hoshi mimicked, repeating it over and over again until it sounded even more ridiculous.

"That's a terrible southern accent." Diana shook her head at her friend. "What have you guys done to her? This girl hasn't drunk since ninety-three."

Yes, and there was a reason for that.

"Not true!" Hoshi laughed. "On a special occasion, she'll have that red drink. It's weak as shit; absolute garbage."

She only drank it to stop them from asking too many questions. Questions like...

"What happened in ninety-three?" Wonwoo asked with a mischievous smirk and his chin dramatically rested on his palm.

"Star, would you like to explain?" Diana raised a brow.

Satine wasn't even listening, she was too busy cutting up a peanut with a knife and fork. The boys thought it was adorable, the way she looked up with her twinkly feline eyes and silverware grasped tightly in her fists.

"Last time I got drunk was on Chrishtmas Eve." She seriously needed to stop talking.

"And tell the boys what happened on Christmas Eve..."

Satine shook her head, bringing her forefinger to her lips and delivering an almighty 'shhh' sound. Not even Diana knew the real story.

"I want to know what happened!" Mingyu laughed, nudging Satine who lost her balance and fell into the wall.

If she wasn't half asleep with her cheek smooshed against the wooden panels, Satine would have shut her best friend up. Many things had happened in the past that she wasn't proud of, things that she still had nightmares about. She didn't want Mingyu clued in on her previous ways when she was still trying so hard to be the woman he deserved.

"A certain little somebody slept with a certain rock legend."

"No way!" Wonwoo spat his whisky back into his glass. "Who?"

"Yes way," Diana nodded. "Twinkle twinkle little star over there fucked Jackson Tyler."

The whole table fell silent. Mingyu was a huge fan of his, always had been.

"Wasn't she like seventeen in ninety-three?" DK questioned, widening his eyes. "And wasn't he like fifty?" He suddenly felt sober.

Satine wasn't conscious enough to answer any questions, let alone tell anyone it was a lie she made up to steer Diana away from the truth. Luckily, Mingyu just laughed and poked Satine in her side. "Wakey wakey. Who was better, me or Jackson?"

"Stop it, you bastard." DK glared at his friend as Satine's eyes rolled back into her head as nausea settled in.

It's not that Mingyu meant to come across as so thoughtless, it's just he had never seen Satine in that kind of state. She always had a witty remark or would slap his arm and call him a 'connard' which he had to ask a French patisserie to translate since she refused to tell him what it meant. He honestly didn't know what to do and everyone was waiting for him to react.
