"Is everything okay?" Satine asked.

"Oh yeah, baby, it's just hot." He shot DK a look as if to say, what the actual fuck did I just eat?

"I'm glad you all like it. I used to eat this all the time growing up."

Mingyu never had the urge to ask Satine about her past only because he hated talking about his, but now all he wanted to know was who the hell cooked her this poison and convinced her it was good.

"DK, you haven't touched any of your fish. The fish is the best part." Mingyu tried to conceal his chuckle after throwing his friend under the bus.

"Do you not like it?" Satine turned to DK with a saddened frown. "I have some garlic bread in the freezer that I can put in for you?"

She was so unbelievably kind and over the weeks DK found it increasingly difficult to avoid her like he would before. She was trying hard, almost too hard to become his friend.

"It looks great, Fontaine. Thank you." His face was uncharacteristically soft for once and it made her stomach bubble up with warmth. He was the hardest to befriend.

Mingyu's lips pressed closed as he watched DK bite down on a chunk of fish. The green hue of his friend's cheeks was all the proof he needed to excuse himself. "Wow, I'm so full. That was so good, Red," he complimented, placing a kiss on her cheek. "I'm going to the toilet quick."

"Don't take too long," Wonwoo gagged, "I'm gonna need it soon."

Satine watched keenly as the boys continued to smile whilst sipping at her broth. She learned the recipe from her maid back home but couldn't bring herself to eat it anymore. It was one of the only things that would make her feel homesick. That and one other thing.

Or person.

After feeling her cell buzz in her pocket, Satine excused herself and went to sit in the bedroom. She was sure it was only Mingyu messaging her for a sneaky hook-up and she was never one to deny that.

Clicking to open the message, her heart fell into her stomach.

19:52 Caroline

Hey, wasn't sure if you knew, but that Martinez guy was found washed up on Silver Creek. It's been ruled a suicide. Shot himself in the head.

Can't get hold of Dotty and I think it's only right that she knows.

Miss you

Satine sucked on her cheek. It wasn't the message she was expecting, actually, it was one of the last messages she was expecting.

Raking her fingers through her hair, Satine's chest ached as she thought about her friend. They used to spend every waking moment together and now they were separated. Knowing Dotty, she was probably halfway across the world exploring Europe or something. All without Satine.

No, she couldn't think about that. It hurt too much.

Her mobile always went straight to voicemail; Satine would check periodically but her inbox was full. She must have gotten a new phone. After all, she disappeared without telling anyone, so it was clear she didn't want to be found.

She probably didn't care if Austin was alive or dead either.

Putting her phone back into her pocket, Satine stood in front of the mirror and fixed her ponytail. She cocked her head at the woman standing opposite and sighed. "It's time to seriously move on-" She paused once she sensed his presence, she had gotten so used to him sneaking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist; it was his favourite thing to do when her back was turned.
