Author's Note: Hello readers! This is my first adventure writing for the Sandman (the show. I haven't read the comics at all). For those who don't know, I usually write for the Vampire Diaries/the Originals/Legacies and I typically write Elijah Mikaelson x OC Eternity stories. Also, I only work with the one OC, so that's why it's the same one. I'm currently obsessed with the new Netflix Sandman show and so I decided to try something new; writing for a new fandom. As a writer, I'm partial to blending my original universe for Eternity with the existing one of the show. Therefore, this is a total AU with canon being more like guidelines than anything. So, please, be gentle. It's my first time in a new universe with new characters.

Finally, just as a quick disclaimer of sorts, because plagiarism is a thing, especially with fanfiction, please do NOT reproduce or use any of the original material featured in my stories, including the OCs, ALL original elements, etc. You do NOT have my permission to use anything that is my own!

Thank you for taking the time and reading my first Sandman fic! I appreciate it! Now, please enjoy the story!

At last.

There he was.

She found him; the King of Dreams, trapped in the human world by human magic.

Morpheus, bare and fragile inside a glass orb prison, stared at her upon her approach with his mouth dropped open and his cold blue eyes wide in surprise and wonder and wariness.

Though he was sitting within the orb, she could still tell that he was a tall, thin man, although at the moment, he appeared to be starved, weak and vulnerable. Even so, his muscles were tawny and well defined, showing he wasn't as weak as he appeared to be. She also observed that he was as ethereal as she was with a pale, alabaster complexion and jet back hair that was unkept. Upon a long square face, his mouth was small and his nose a straight point.

Despite his weakened condition, she found that he was still handsome...no, beautiful, but most immortals were that and therefore, it wasn't at all surprising to find him attractive. More so, she found him fascinating simply because he was a personification of a universal concept — Dreams and Nightmares. It was an amazing thing to encounter, a wonder that would not leave her anytime soon.

She crossed the barrier that kept Morpheus trapped as if it weren't there at all, for she had fortified herself against the effects of the spell that kept him captive so she wasn't also trapped by it. She gracefully crouched before him as he watched her keenly with a gentle smile as to show him she meant him no harm.

Though she knew that the Endless existed, she had she never encountered Morpheus or his siblings in her three thousand years of life. Therefore, she was awestruck by him, not unlike a human meeting their favorite celebrity. She was excited to finally encounter one of the oldest immortals in existence and relieved as well, since Dream's absence had consequences that had affected the human world, something that she couldn't abide by.

It was her duty the protect humanity from all supernatural threats — intentional or otherwise.

That was why she went on a search for the Dream King, finding him in London, England, in the basement of some old human's house. It had been easy for one such as she. Human magic was not very thorough in its execution and failed to conceal Morpheus from supernatural detection. Using her great power, she searched for the unique magic signature of the spell used to contain Morpheus. From there, she came swiftly at once to set him free...and to free the affected humans from what they called the sleepy sickness.

"Hello there," she spoke softly, putting a small, delicate hand to the glass. "I do not know if you know who I am, but I know you. If I were blind, I would still know you. I have come to free you, Dream of the Endless, and restore order to the human world — and your own."

She paused, waiting for a response from Morpheus, but all he did was stare at her with those cold eyes and pursed lips. He didn't say a word. Perhaps, he was simply waiting to see if she was, in fact, there to save him and not to betray him in his vulnerable state.

Upon realizing that he would not respond to her, she set to work freeing the King of Dreams.

Closing her eyes, she concentrated on breaking the spell that held Morpheus captive.

It was a quick thing as the spell that held him was no match for her greater power. She could feel the power that confined Morpheus — a wicked spell full of dark magic, vilely evil. It was good that her power was that of light and that the dark was no match for the light.

Within seconds the dark spell was broken.

Once it was, a great surge of whirling power burst out from the Dream King himself causing the glass that caged him to crack, then shatter completely. Through the remanence of his cage he stepped out with that bright swirling light of power all around him. He stood proudly there, basking in his freedom.

She could also sense his anger, his thirst for vengeance against those who had wronged him and it sent a slight shiver down her spine with its intensity.

She couldn't blame him for his need for revenge nor did she have any intention of trying to stop him in his quest either. These humans had Morpheus's wrath coming to them for what they had done, for all their meddling, for all the harm they had brought upon their world and the Dreaming.

For her, all that mattered was that Morpheus was finally free!

And because he was, her mission was complete.

She did think to remain, to at least make certain that he made his way back to the Dreaming, to his world, alright, but she knew perfectly well that he could manage on his own. He was one of the Endless, after all. He didn't need any further help from her.

So, she quietly took her leave of him with the confidence that all would soon be back to as it should be. She cared not to remain for gratitude or praise nor did she care to watch him take his vengeance upon his captors.

Besides, she was needed elsewhere.

Her time here was done.

Her mission was completed successfully with the restoration of peace and order soon at hand, now that the Dream King was free.

Therefore, there was no point is staying longer than needed and so off she went onto her next mission with the peace of mind of a job well done, not expecting to encounter Morpheus again and content with the moment she had shared in his presence.

Little did she know, that first meeting was only the beginning, that rescuing Dream of the Endless was the unexpected start of something more profound than anything she had ever known.
