reese's point of view
"come on, reese, you promised!" imani groaned as she tried to pull me up from the couch by my hand, which frankly wasn't working. "yeah, i promised ten years ago! shit has changed since then!" i retorted and tried to pull my hand out of her grasp, which also wasn't working.
imani dropped my hand and just looked at me, nothing but a glare on her face. well, fuck. i've been best friends with this girl for fourteen years, and if there's one thing i've learned, it's that she isn't playing when she brings out the death stare.
"look, mani, listen. i made that promise when we were kids! i'm a grown ass adult now, and getting a tattoo is just something i don't wanna do." i shrugged and crossed my arms across my chest, leaning back into the couch. she just raised her eyebrows, "and why not?"
"they're...i don't know, they're vulgar! i've worked very hard to keep a good reputation, and a tattoo would completely ruin that. only dumbasses get tattoos." i explained, using my hands to express myself better. it's a bad habit, or at least my parents think so. they always raised me to believe that talking with your hands could be seen as aggressive, and i tried my best to stop, but it's just something i never grew out of.
i watched as imani's eyebrows changed into a furrow, "hold on, i have multiple tattoos,"
i grinned, "yeah, exactly."
she laughed but flipped me off, flopping onto the couch beside me. "this is so unfair. and, nobody would be able to see it! you could get it in a place that nobody sees!" she was trying her hardest to convince me, and although i was putting up a good fight, i knew i'd probably be in a tattoo parlor by this evening.
"like where, my ass?" i scoffed. my eyes widened when i saw that devilish smirk show up on her face, "no, no imani, i was joking! i cannot get a tattoo on my ass, that is so-"
"hot?" she cut me off, knowing damn well that was not the word i had in mind. "outrageous." i corrected her as i shook my head, but the same stupid smirk rested on her lips. "i'll arrive to work on time for a month, if you agree to get the tattoo you promised me you'd get, on your ass." she crossed her arms.
now, a month of perfect attendance may seem like the bare minimum to the average person, because it is. but to imani? a month without any altercations is practically a miracle from god himself. as her boss, i can not decline this offer, because if i keep letting her shit slide, then my boss will get on my ass. which is valid.
goddamn it. i knew i'd somehow end up in a tattoo parlor by this evening.
"fine." i sighed, and couldn't resist smiling as i watched her cheer in excitement. "you won't regret it! okay, well yeah, you probably will. but, in like 20 years we'll look back and be like 'remember when we got matching tattoos? we were so crazy'." imani rambled on as we walked towards my front door, but stopped in her tracks and looked at me in confusion when i grabbed her arm.
