Spleen, though skies were clear
and the sun blazed bright.
Spleen, though laughter echoed
and I could hear
melodies of glory. I just might
have seen gems from away
gems from the past,
gems I cherish,
gleaming in the crowd.

Oh bittersweet encounter.
Why here? Why now?
What a heavenly sight!
Perhaps it is a sign?
Help me breathe.
Help me see through the blur,
through the tears.

I didn't see the light for
three hundred days and some more.
And believe me when I say
those long days
in the dim daylight felt
like everlasting years.
My skin has burned yet
my heart has remained, ever since,
oh so pale.

I didn't expect you.
And I was never fond of surprises.
Sunburn hallucinations.
Imagine what would wild fire
do to an arctic heart-shaped ice cube.

I was melting from the inside.
Yet I proudly wore the marble skin,
and played in a three-second scene.
Then run.
I wept and tasted my liquid heart on my cheeks.
Nauseous I felt when I cracked a smile to foul the common burning sphere.

Three hundred days and some more.
I thought I forgot the taste of feelings.

Three hundred days and some more.
Perhaps I am a shadow child, never wanting to grow brave and embrace the light.

Three hundred days and some more.
Yesterday, I was sure
that darkness was my destiny.
I saw light again, by chance.
Now light is all I see.
Now hope is all I believe in.

I'll wait for three hundred days
and so much more
if you surprise me again.
