End of the Night

Gwen and Madeline leaned against each other as they walked to the driveway with Charlie close by. "Thank you for sharing today with us, Maddie."

Madeline tilted her head to Gwen's. "I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

The two shared a laugh.

"What's next for you, Maddie?" Gwen squeezed her waist.

"I am not heading back to the clinic." She sighed.

"No?!"

"I am joining a cancer research team."

"Yeah?"

"Less stress on my heart." Madeline gave Gwen a squeeze this time. "Maybe I can help save more people?"

"You'll do great, I know you will!" Gwen stopped her maid of honor at her SUV.

"Thanks, Gwen." Madeline hugged her friend. "Well ~ this is goodnight."

"Goodnight, Maddie." Gwen closed Madeline's door and watched her drive down the driveway before heading back to the tent.

Jeremy and Austin were deep into a conversation about the new James Web space telescope while Chastity stayed busy chatting with her friends on her cellphone.

Gwen kissed Chastity on top of her head. "Time to tell your friends goodnight, Chast."

"Okay, Mom." Chastity made one last text and put her phone down.

"And that is how galaxies are formed." The teenager looked up to his mother. "Hi, Mom!"

"Hey, Austin." Gwen leaned down to whisper into her son's ear. "Is anything sinking into the cave man?" She smiled at Jeremy holding her youngest child.

Jeremy winked at his wife.

"You have to be kidding, Mom!" Austin looked at Jeremy. "But in his defense ~ he's had a long day."

"Dude, a compliment?" Jeremy laughed as Harmony squirmed in his arms as he spoke.

Gwen reached down for her sleeping child. "Why don't we head inside? Come on, little Princess." Harmony wrapped her arms around her mom's neck.

Jeremy rose from his seat. "Come on, Austin. Let me tell you about a place called earth. It's where we live."

"Very funny, old man." Austin shot back as he got up and ran ahead into the house.

"Hey Chast, let's go Honey." Gwen handed Harmony back to Jeremy before she slowly walked into the house with her eldest child.

"Good night Chastity." Gwen kissed Chastity on the temple.

"Good night, Mom." Chastity hugged her mother then headed off to her bedroom. "I am so happy right now, I don't think I'll be able to sleep for a week!"

Gwen reached out. "No more phone tonight." Chastity reluctantly offered it to her before closing her bedroom door.

Jeremy whispered. "And then there were three." He pulled Gwen close and was about to kiss her when Harmony woke up.

"Hey, Baby." Gwen directed her kiss to her youngest child instead of Jeremy.

"Mommy. I don't want to sleep alone tonight." Harmony rubbed her eyes.

"Ah, Jeremy." Gwen shrugged. "Sorry." She smiled.

"How about you two take the bed?" Jeremy gave a chagrined look to his new wife. "See you in the morning, Beautiful!"

Jeremy laid Princess Harmony on the queen sized bed then looked up to see Gwen sashayed her way him. "You are gonna make a great dad?"

"Dad?" Jeremy sat on his comfy chair next to the bed. Gwen didn't want the old chair in the livingroom. "Can I be good cop?" He laughed.
