Shit.

The blonde felt his eyes sting, tears threatening to make themself known, causing him stand quickly and pull his hand away from Taxi's. "I-I'm turning in for the night-"

"Br'aad-"

Sylnan didn't get to finish, watching his younger brother turn and head upstairs, a door shutting after a few seconds.

"Gods, what's gotten to him? He's never that dramatic-"

"S-Sylnan, don't say that. Br'aad's had a hard day."

Sylnan raised a brow at the tabaxi, his head tilting slightly. "So something did happen."

"W-Well... technically a lot has happened today- I mean, us coming to the tavern is something that has happened-"

"Taxi."

"I-I-I'm just saying! It's all perspective, y'know? Today has been a pretty busy day, and I'm sure-"

"Taxi. Why is Br'aad acting so weird? Stop playing dumb, I know you know, y'kept looking over at him." Sylnan's voice had gotten a lot more serious, almost dangerously.

"Wh- I'm not playing dumb- I... Look, just... I don't think it's my place to exactly say... He's just had a difficult day... I kept glancing over to him to check on him, I was worried about him. I am worried about him."

A few seconds of tense silence fell over The Fated, Sylnan disrupting it by sighing and standing slowly. "Well, if you wanna keep secrets, that's up to you. This is a waste of time."

"And where the fuck are you goin'?" Mountain's voice was rough, his words slurring from the alcohol. He may not say it explicitly, but he wasn't a fan of how dismissive Sylnan had been of Br'aad, the whole group saw how it affected the younger half-elf. After all of the effort and tears that it had taken to get Sylnan back, this new behaviour of ignoring Br'aad or straight up snapping at him was exhausting to say the least.

"M'going to bed. Where the hell do you think I'm going?"

"I don't know- to check on your brother who walked off crying? Seriously, what the fuck is your problem?"

Before the two could delve into an argument, which both Velrisa and Taxi could feel was a single breath away from starting, Velrisa's voice interrupted their harsh glares.

"If I may... It might serve better for Taxi to talk to Br'aad? Only because he seemed to not be ready to explain what was wrong... as well as his outburst towards Sylnan. Taxi was there with him, maybe he will be able to convince Br'aad to tell us what's wrong when he's calmer? Besides, I don't think Sylnan here is in the best of moods to be checking in on Br'asd, Mountain."

Taxi felt himself tense up at Velrisa's voice, looking over to see her familiarly neutral features. He didn't remind Mountain that Vel had been there as well, knowing it would  probably only lead to an even more stressful line of conversation. Taxi wasn't drunk, but he'd have to be dangerously intoxicated to be ready to handle that conversation.

Trying to save himself from this situation that, for once, he hadn't gotten himself into, he spoke up.

"I-I-I... I'm not great at- you know- I uh-, I don't have to if you don't want me to-! And uh-"

"No, I think Vel has a point."

Nula help him.

"Whatever. It's late and I'm tired. I'm not in a mood. Taxi, you wanna check up on Br'aad? Go for it, knock yourself out." And before anything else could be said, Sylnan turned to go up the same set of stairs leading to the rooms Cedric had already paid for, a slightly louder slam of a door being heard.
