Death came knocking
Heard voices outside the foyer
Looking down what we saw
Death knocking on the neighbours door
Life seemed to stand still
As we watched silently at the sill
Snide remarks becomes the surface
Remembering when the neighbour created his own circus
He was the clown to all the complex around
Only deaths knock, drowned all sound
Heart beating in the ears loud
The pit in the stomach growls
Reaching for a prayer to shroud
This neighbour so proud
An eeriness bringing in the early morn
When the body is brought forth
Sighs a relief on sight
Shocked that it's his lady, grey in light
Tubes and machines makes the sounds
Eeriness is all around
Worldly life seems un-found
Where death stands as you look down
Waving a hand at death you say
Hello friend, not today?
Death bows and bids adieu
Watching as the neighbour through
The ambulance shows he cares
And then with outstretched wings
No longer there
Life beats once again
With a tap of the forehead to upwards flight
Time to say goodnight
Even though it is now morn
Life goes on like the norm
Death only knocked at the door
And never got what he came for
