I felt a single tear fall down my cheek. Followed by another and then another until I realized I was crying so hard I couldn't stop. I needed to see Nick I don't care about any stupid rule saying otherwise. I run to the other side of the hallway where Nicks dressing room is located. I don't knock, I swing open the door as fast as I can. I see Nick in the corner on his knees crying. His face is bright red, his eyes are puffy, and his suit is soaking wet. I rush over to him sit down and wrap my arms around him. I bring him in as tightly as possible and kiss the top of his head. I don't care if we have to postpone or even cancel the wedding. I need Nick to be okay.
"Nick shh it's okay. Tell me. Say whatever you need to get out."
"She's dead. My mom called and said she found her in my bed...dead. On our wedding day. We have people downstairs waiting, but I can't stop crying."
"Nick this is only our wedding day if you want. We can cancel and replan a different day."
"Char we paid for everything."
"I don't care. I couldn't care less in fact. We can do whatever you want don't worry about the money, or the people. Nick I love you so much, and I know how much you loved Nellie. This is going to take a long time to get over and it will still never fully go away."
"We are getting fucking married. I don't care I need to be your husband as soon as possible. This is why. Give me 10 minutes and I will look presentable. I can cry later."
"Nick we don't have to do that. You can take time."
"I want to. I want to get married today. As soon as possible." Nick sounds confident. I hug him as tight as possible. I play with his hair, I kiss his head, I just sit with him for as long as he needs. Nick starts getting up quickly. He stands up in front of me.
"Stand up," he tells me.
"Ok?" I say. I stand up so we are looking at each other.
"Char...You look amazing. This is perfect. You are perfect. You are so gorgeous." I finally realize what he was doing. He just realized he was seeing my outfit for the first time. I quickly examine his, and I'm shocked.
"Nick yours is amazing. It's so you. I can't believe how good you look."
"Let's go get married," Nick says as he grabs my hand.
"Are you sure?" I ask him. He wipes his few remaining tears and replies, "Positive. I can cry later." And that was that. I helped him fix his hair, and wipe a cool rag on his face. Nick spent a couple more minutes calming down. I was distraught over Nellie, so I couldn't imagine what Nick must be feeling. I know tonight is going to be rough. He is shoving everything down right now, and I have no idea how to help him.
