Hidden Away

There are times when, for whatever reason, text will end up partially hidden behind elements on a design. As with everything, it takes a certain amount of talent to do this correctly. You want people to be able to still comprehend what the text says, even if it is partially hidden. You never want to hide so much of it that there is no possible way for someone to discern what a title says. It doesn't matter if you believe it's very obvious to figure out, not everyone will.

There is no reason to hide the text in this instance. It could have been place above the author's name, but I've seen designers do things like this. Whether it's because they believe it's artistic or some other reason, I can't say. But if readers have to guess at the book's title they probably won't read it.

If you're dead set (or the author is) on placing the text so it's hidden then you can certainly do it without making the title unreadable

No matter how you end up placing your text always make certain it can be easily read. If you aren't certain then ask friends or other designers for input. I'll often send a design to my daughter and have her look at it. Remember that you can read the title, no matter how hidden it is, because you already know what it says.

There are times where I'll be staring at a design for so long I'll completely miss something that needs to be corrected and outside input is a huge help.
