1. A Fresh Start, and Fresh Worry

Luke POV

Hello to whoever's reading this. I'm not going to bore you with the full-back flash, so I'll just give you the quick notes. Last month, a creature (Tails) from another world crashed into my world. After getting to know him, I learned he meant no harm, and just wanted to get back to his world. However, a government official was after us and tried his best...AND I MEAN HIS BEST...to catch us. With some smart thinking and help from Jewel, we were able to get him back home. But that wasn't the last we'd see of him, since we agreed to visit each other soon. Anyways, flash-forward...

ONE MONTH LATER (AFTER THE EVENTS OF BOOK 1)

Friday: 1:32 PM

Jewel and I are at school, talking during our Chemistry class. We kept showing each other funny videos from Instagram. "Check this one out", I said showing her a video of a person slipping while holding a tray of food. The food fell into their grandma's head. "Oh no!", she laughed. 1:35 PM hit, and the bell rang. "Hey, wanna go to the market for some snacks?", she asked. "Sure, I need t get some stuff for Tails' visit". She gasped, "Wait, he's coming?" "Yeah, he sent a letter saying he would be coming tomorrow to stay during our break" "Awesome, I get to see my cousin from another world!", she yelled excitedly. "I get you're excited but keep it down" "Sorry".

As we walked to the bus stop, Jennifer and Edric approached. "Hey Luke, we're headed to the park to fly our new drone. Wanna come?", Jenn asked. "Sorry guys, I can't. Maybe next time". "Don't worry about it. Later dude", Edric said, walking away with Jennifer. "Look at you, finally making some friends," Jewel said. "Yeah, I figured it was time to leave my comfort shell. Besides, I cant cling onto one person my entire life". Jewel smiled, "Tails would be proud to see you like this". "I know". The bus arrived and we got on it. As we took our seats, I took out my phone and opened the picture I had of Tails and I. Can't wait to see you again little bro...

A WHILE LATER

Jewel and I were at the market, waiting in line to pay for our snacks. "Hey, what's with the box of cookies and tub of ice cream?", she asked, noticing what I was carrying. "Chocolate chunk cookies and mint ice cream. Tails' favorite flavors. I figured I'd get him something for his visit". As the customer in front left, we walked up and set our stuff on the counter. As the lady on the cash register scanned the items, we looked up at the TV, which had suddenly started broadcasting a Breaking News Alert.

"Breaking news alert as we come LIVE on the air. We have a major story coming to this moment. Moments ago, an announcement from the California State Prison of Los Angeles revealed that an inmate has escaped from the prison. It's unknown who the prisoner is, but officials will have updates as soon as possible. until then, people are asked to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. That's all for now, I'm Jessica Morales, have a good, and safe day."

People in line started to mutter as they heard the news. "Oh wow", Jewel said. "That'll be twelve dollars with ninety-eight cents. Sir? Sir? SIR!", the cashier yelled. I looked down from the television, pulled out my card, and paid for our items. After leaving the store we headed over to my house. We walked inside, only to find my parents scrambling around the living room with big suitcases and bags. "I'm home, and Jewel's with me!...What's all this?". "Nothing that concerns you. Your mother and I are going out of state to visit some investors," my dad said, as he carried the bags outside towards the car. "We'll be back in a week or two. We deposited some money into your bank account.", my mom said as she left the door. "Bye", I said as she closed the door. We heard the car starting, leaving the street, and driving off into the distance.

"Wow, that was weird", Jewel said as we walked into the kitchen. I took out the stuff we bought, put the ice cream inside the freezer, and the cookies away. Jewel opened her bag of chips, and as she ate some she said "You're really taking this whole Tails visit serious, huh?" "Yeah, why wouldn't I?". She chocked a bit, "Well, Tails is from another world. And, if he were ever seen, you'd put him in danger, while getting yourslef in trouble as well. May I remind you the whole Zandelburg event?", she said. I froze, remembering the events...the chases...the forest...the bullet. "Speaking of that. The whole prison breakout things has me wondering, isn't that the prison Zandelburg was sentenced to?" I walked over to the stool next to her, "I think so. But why does that matter?" "What if it was Zandelburg who escaped?". I froze, with my eyes wide open in, zoned out and in deep thought. Jewel looked up, realizing what she just said "Oh, oh no no no no no! I was just joking!", she clarified.

Jewel wasn't being serious, but I had to consider it. Jewel was picked up later that evening and taken home. After she left, I started getting ready for bed. I laid down on my bed and covered myself with my bedsheets. Next to my lamp, there was a framed picture of Tails and I that I stared at as I turned off the lights. I turned off the light and fell asleep. But as I slept, I couldn't stop thinking about what Jewel had said. If Zandelburg reallly had escaped, he'd know my address. And with Tails coming to visit, who knows what could happen if he'd end up showing up "unannonced".

Alright, that's enough thinking for now Luke! Get some shut eye, you have an important day tommorow.
