My mother led me to the room, down the stairs and into the basement. Where we had been sleeping, with barely enough food to carry I and my mom for a day.

Where I fell numbly to the ground. I could barely keep upright. I could hear my mother's rushing steps towards me, my direction. She gathered me up in her arms. My eyes shut tight, against the pain in my stomach. "Kyran." my mother called, with her soft calm voice. I reluctantly opened my eyes, only to meet my mom's hazel blue eyes. Tears began to flood me once more as the truth hit me like a heavy stone.

My mother realizing were my mind was heading whispered. "we'll find a way out of this." she said, kissing my forehead. And I shut my eyes, letting a tear slide freely down my cheeks. She pulled away and stared right into my eyes.

" you were never meant for the dark, Kyran. Neither was the darkness meant for you." she said smiling sadly. " Always remember that. There's a whole new world out there. Waiting for you," she said pointing a finger at my chest. And I looked at it, where it rested. Her voice had me looking up again. " Wait for your time, Kyran. It will come to you... freedom will come to you." she said, emphasising on the word 'will'. I nodded, and she smiled at me.

Little did I know, that would be the last time I would see my mother.
