"Don't pretend you know what's going on." Hailee snorts glancing at Tom.
"Which end are we supposed to get the ball into?"
"That end" Hailee points just when Florence scores their team a point, "Flo scores most of the points"
"Well she is the soccer queen" Tom distantly points out watching the ball mesmerized.
"Yup." Tom can practically see the grin on Hailee's just from the girl's tone making him shift uneasily but before he can open his mouth to talk, Hailee beats him to it,
"I wanted to talk to you about Florence actually"
"Did you?" Tom questioned.
"Yeah," Hailee nods before continuing, "Well..you know how I thought she was straight?"
"Yes" Tom nods his head slowly. Hailee turns her body to fully face Tom with a slight bounce in her step,
"Well I've kind of been feeling that she isn't. That she might like me back. Like these couple of days, we've been hanging out nonstop, and I..I'm pretty sure she's been flirting with me. Sometimes at least. Obviously I'm not getting my hopes up but I think there's a chance." Hailee rambles with a glint of hope in her eyes and suddenly Tom didn't want to say what he was planning to no more,
"uh" Tom mumbles to himself looking away. Hailee stares at her best friend's reaction with confusion,
"What?"
But Tom refused to say anything. Hailee groans, "Come on please. Just say it."
"Florence likes a guy." Tom rushes out with wide eyes. Hailee's face falls at the same time her shoulder's slump. The glint of hope disappearing from her eyes and the bounce to every step she makes, gone.
"What?" Is all Hailee could muster up.
"Like in love with a guy." Tom clarifies with a sad look on his face as he watched his friend shut down slowly in front of him. Hailee pauses, staring at the bottom of her dirty converses, before looking up,
"How do you know this?"
Tom plays with his fingers anxiously before explaining,
"Okay look I didn't want you to get hurt so I did some digging myself. And I messaged Naomi since I sort of know her, and I know she's friends with Flo, and I just slyly asked if Flo was going out with someone because I have a friend whose interested. She said Flo is single but she's interested in a guy from their group. They mess around a lot, teasing I guess, so the rest of the group has gotten a feeling they like each other." The whole time Tom explains the whole situation, Hailee avoided all eye contact.
"Whose the guy?" She whispered
"Sebastian Stan."
Hailee slowly took this information in and nodded slowly. She let out a shaky exhale before looking back at the field to see the team celebrating. She guessed she was distracted enough to not even realize the team had won.
"Hailee!" Florence shouts out after getting out of the team group hug. Hailee sends a weak wave in response with a forced smile.
Tom sighs before grabbing his phone out of his pocket.

"As your token straight friend, it's my duty to remind you that sometimes people are straight" Tom announces from beside Hailee as they lean on the back of Tom's bed.
