Since the first night that Eddie slept over at your place, he's popped up several times for a repeat. Three times this week he'd appeared knocking on your bedroom window, looking for a comfortable place to stay and it was only Thursday. It wasn't that you were complaining (because you loved having him here) you were just genuinely shocked that someone as awesome as Eddie was still interested in being around you so often.

Tonight was no different and at around 10pm you found Eddie crawling through the bedroom window you'd left slightly ajar for him. The two of you had a pretty good routine by now in that you would leave your window open while you went to the bathroom to shower and get ready for bed. He'd sneak in around ten and you'd walk back into your bedroom to find him laying in bed waiting for you.

"You okay you're looking a little funny." You ask tonight, walking into your room to find Eddie sprawled out in his usual fashion. His shoes and jacket had already been discarded leaving him in jeans and a t-shirt. You'd suggested to him several times to bring some sort of pyjamas with him because surely its not suitable sleeping in jeans but he never seemed to do taht.

But there was something odd about him. He looked paler than usual and his eyes they seemed vacant or like there was an emotion hidden within them that you couldn't quite place your finger on.

"Yeah I've just had a rough day princess and honestly all I want is a drink and and someone to cuddle." Pulling back the blanket he gestures to the tiny spot next to him where he wishes for you to sleep. "That is where you come in princess, get you're cute little ass over here."

Smiling you slip into bed next to him as he covers you both with blankets. You turn to face him head on his chest, legs intertwined with each other so that you could fit on your tiny bed. This close to him you could admire every intricate detail of his face, tiny scars that had long-since faded, the odd freckle, a random freckle that you scarcely notice from a regular talking distance.

"Mmm, you're freezing." You tell nuzzling further into his chest.

The two of you simply lay besides one another for awhile, appreciating each others presence. Listening to the thrum of his heart you couldn't help but feel it seemed to be beating  a lot faster than normal.

"You wanna talk about it? Whatever it is that is bothering you." You eventually ask, fingers already playing with his long hair. The amount of time you had found yourself absentmindedly braiding Eddie's hair was at the point where he didn't even question it anymore. In fact he actually quite liked when you did it

"Nah it's no big deal." He insists before pulling your bodies up so that you were both sitting. His eyes lingered on your lips for what would probably be considered longer than socially acceptable before gently kissing you. The gently here needs to be noted as normally the whole kissing thing with Eddie got quite intense. This just further solidified in your mind that Eddie was indeed not okay about something.

"You're lips are so soft, I could kiss them all day." He tells you.

And you would gladly let him do so because quite frankly Eddie was a freaking awesome kisser even if his lips did feel like ice cubes right now.  The two of you laid side by side in silence for ages. Eddie's hands playing with your hair and you fingers slowly tracing one his tattoos that had peeked from behind his shirt. You were so at peace. So tranquil. So ready for sleep.

Though you couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with him. You knew that tonight was Hellfire and he had some elaborate campaign that he had been planning for months. Perhaps it didn't go well? Maybe that's why he was off.

"You're so cute when your asleep like this." Eddie whispers clearly convinced that you were asleep. "I can't believe this is really happening. I remember practicing asking you out in the mirror, having the boys tease me for staring at you too long during lunch. You know I like to sit at the head of the table of lunch just so I could clearly see you sitting with your friends. The boys told me you'd never go for me, especially when if I only ever sat and stared at you. Honestly, I can't believe I got a first date with you, let alone these last few months."

His words were confusing you. Was he always this vulnerable after you went to sleep. Did he always sit and confess things to you but you never realised because you were too busy sleeping. But this seemed too emotional and adding that to his weird vibes earlier didn't give you good feeling. Either way you chose to dismiss any feeling and instead snuggle into his chest and eventually fall asleep because you're lazy and figured what the worst that could happen.

Turns out the worst that could happen is him being accused of vicious murder. That's right. Your boyfriend was apparently going to be hunted down by the cops for the murder of Chrissy Cunningham.

You had woke up that morning to an empty bed which wasn't unusual as Eddie often tried to leave before your dad woke up to go to work. What did grab your attention though was the letter left on your bedside table alongside one of Eddie's rings. In it he explained the events of last night before he came to visit you. He told you of what he saw and how nobody would believe want went down in that trailer. He knew that the cops would blame him and so he was on the run, hiding somewhere that he couldn't tell you.

I'm sorry for being selfish, he said. But I couldn't leave without spending one last night with you. Y/n I'm pretty sure I love you and you mean more to me than anything. I can't risk you getting dragged into this princess. I can't screw up your life as well as mine. You're probably better off without me but just know I'll never forget you.

There and then you made a silent promise taht you would find Eddie again someday. That you would find a way to make things right so that Eddie could come home to you.

You'd do whatever it took.

And that was a promise.
