In Between

Chapter 2 - A New Start

-Liam's POV-

One of the shards hit me right in the stomach where my mum hit me earlier. I see it happen and can't handle the blood and the pain.

I pass out.

I wake up in a strange room, I look around and see my dad sleeping in a chair beside me. A nurse walks in and greets me. "Hey, good to see you awake. You've been here for almost a week." She pauses to let me realise it. "He's been here all week," she says while pointing at my father. "You lost a lot of blood when that shard hit you, that's why you haven't been conscious lately." The nurse wakes my dad and I sit up straight.

"Where is Pete, dad?" I ask my dad. Pete or Peter is my emotional support cat. He's kind of my best friend. More like one of my only friends. "He's not here Li," he says. "What do you mean he's not here?" I ask in frustration. "Your mum let him go outside, like she let him run away. I'm sorry, son."

"No, no. We-we have to go back dad. We have to find him. I can't live without him," I pause. My dad walks towards me. "He's my best friend," I say while breaking down in my dad's arms. "I know, I'm sorry bud." I lay in my dad's arms for a few minutes.

"When can we go home?" my dad asks the nurse. "We need to do a few tests, so I think you can go home in about two days." "Thank you," my dad answers the nurse.

-two days later-

My dad and I walk out of the hospital. "I got a house in Nashville," my dad says. "Cool," I say lifeless, still sad about Pete. "You know I'm here for you, son." "Yeah, I know," I answer.

We get to the airport and get on the plane to Nashville. When we get there dad shows me the new house and my room. We settled in and went to my new high school, Hillwood High School. It gives me a weird feeling, something is off. I just hope I won't have to deal with too much more of this hell I'm living in.
