Y/n's pov

After school, Max skated around the stairwell at the back of the school, and we talked at the second stairwell.

"There is no way it's her." Mike objected.

"Yeah it's basically impossible to get that high a score, except for Y/n." Will said, shooting a smile at me.

"But her name is Max." Lucas said.

"So?" Mike asked.

"So, how many Max's do you know?" Lucas asked.

"I don't know. None." Will said.

"Exactly." I said.

"Yeah, I mean, she shows up the day after someone with the same name beats me at dig dug? It's got to be her." Dustin said.

"Plus, she skateboards, so she seems pretty awesome." I added.

"Awesome?!? None of us have even talked to her!" Mike said.

"Shit! Target lost!" Dustin said.

"Look!" Will said, pointing to the girl, who was walking away and threw something into the trash.

Dustin, Will and Mike all ran to the garbage can while Lucas and I walked over nonchalantly.

"Way to be stealthy, guys. Totally not weird at all that you're sprinting over to a garbage can in anticipation." I snickered.

"Oh man." Lucas huffed.

"Stop spying on me creeps." I read off the crumpled up paper and sighed.

"Well, shit." Dustin said.

I heard a car horn and I turned to see Joyce who was leaned out of the side of her car.

"Time to go, kiddo." She called to Will.

Will waved bye to us and got in the car, Joyce driving away.

"I gotta go, we need to put stuff out for the yard sale." Mike said.

"Does this mean you're not coming with us to the arcade?" Lucas asked me.

"No." I laughed. "This is just Michael's punishment for graffitiing the bathroom."

"As if you haven't done the same thing!" He fought.

"You're the one who got caught." I shrugged.

My brother rolled his eyes. "Bye guys."

"Bye." Lucas said as Mike got on his bike and biked away.

"Bye Michael!" I called.

"Bye Y/n!" Mike yelled back.

"So do we wait at the arcade and see if it's her?" I asked, looking back to Dustin and Lucas.

"I guess, but what if she doesn't come?" Lucas said.

"Then we go in and play, try to win back our high scores, not like Y/n needs to though." Dustin grumbled. He had been terribly upset about only his record being broken and not mine, claiming it was "unfair." All day.

——

"This is stupid." I said.

We were sitting behind a bush, Dustin was looking through a pair of binoculars and Lucas looked like he was about to fall asleep from boredom.

"I agree with Y/n." Lucas sighed, glaring at Dustin in frustration.

"Why do you even need those?" I questioned Dustin's sanity, to which I was ignored.

"Still no sign?" Lucas asked.

"Jack shit." Dustin replied.

"Wait... Ten o'clock! Ten o'clock!" I pointed to the red head, spotting the girl.

"They're arguing! They're arguing!" Dustin said, his binoculars back at his face once more.

"Yeah, I can see that. I mean, why do you even need those?" Lucas asked the same question I had.

Max was yelling into an old blue Camaro, then she slammed the door and flipped off the driver as he drove away.

"Woah." Dustin said in total admiration.

She stomped into the arcade and we followed, peeking through the glass to see her completely dominating Dig dug once more.

"That's Madmax, alright." I concluded.

——

We were biking home, and we had been trying to get in contact with Mike all day.

"Mike? Mike!" Dustin said for the millionth time that day.

"Yeah, I copy." Mike said from the other line, sighing.

"What the hell are you doing on this channel again?" Dustin asked, confused.

"Nothing. What do you need?" Mike asked irritably.

"We were right! Max is Madmax!" Dustin exclaimed in excitement.

"Yeah, I'm busy." Mike said, sounding annoyed.

"But-" Dustin started, but Mike had turned off his walkie.

"Shit." Dustin said.

I sighed.

"So what now?" I asked.

"We stick to the plan." Dustin shrugged at me.

"Mike's not gonna like it." Lucas shook his head doubtfully.

"Yeah, well, last time I checked, Mike isn't in charge." I stated the facts of our party.

"Our party's a democracy, not a dictatorship." Dustin added.

Dustin headed down his road and eventually, Lucas reached the intersection to his house.

We said goodbye and I continued biking.

When I finally got home, I plopped down in my sheets and fell asleep.
