"You read those articles I sent you yet?"
I shake my head as I pick at my salad. "Nope."
"Why not?" Mike asks. "You gotta read them, I searched long and hard for them, the cases are similar to the experience you had."
"Do you actually believe me?" I ask, narrowing my eyes at him. "Cause you're like one of the fakest bitches I know."
Mike takes that as a compliment, straightening up his shoulders. "I'm quite good at that, aren't I?"
I roll my eyes and look back down to my plate.
"But no," he continues, "I'm not being fake right now because I know you, and I know you really can't commit to a lie for more than an hour."
"Thanks for believing me but like, what exactly are we gonna do about this?" I pout. "I mean, what do other madmen do after an extraterrestrial encounter apart from going to every tv station possible?"
Mike places his hands on the table, intertwining his fingers together. "There's not really much information about that but, I have read some cases where some madman claim to be different after their experience."
"Different how?"
"Some say they're more...aware," he says, putting air quotes on the last word, "Like, their senses or you could say, third eye open up."
I huff. "Word?"
"Word." Mike nods. "I think this was in one of the articles I sent you, you gotta read it, I think the madman's name is Agatha Williams."
And so that's why instead of going to class after lunch break, I go to the library instead. I sit down in an aisle between two shelves and look up the article Mike told me about.
Agatha Williams claims that she was abducted by aliens one night she went out for a stroll. She said she saw some weird lights in the sky, felt dizzy and passed out. When she woke up, she was still in the streets but it was morning. She said she told a local radio station and pretty much just tried to move on with her life afterwards.
But, some days later, she started realising something awfully strange with her. She realised she was now very fast at getting things right. She's a college student and she's currently struggling through Cardiology but after her experience, she started understanding her classes better, knowing things that she hadn't even studied and getting A's in the classes she usually got C's at.
Well shit...
That's actually pretty cool. For dramatic effect, I look up at the ceiling. "Aliens, I see what you're doing for others."
Mike sent me new articles regarding similar cases as Agatha Williams and since I'm here, I proceed to read them up.
This madman's name is Tracy Jordan, a college student as well. She's short sighted and has to use glasses. She claims that after her experience, she started noticing that she can see long distance very clearly.
I read three more articles of madmen claiming new found "abilities" after their alien abductions and I can't help but note how, none of these articles denote any negative aftereffects. What these madmen claim to experience, are all positive.
What if this whole thing isn't necessarily a bad thing?
But then again, a large percentage of these cases involve missing individuals. Not everyone makes it back from an alien abduction. Some people go missing and never come back. Like Louise Han, that grocery store attendant and Mr. Ogar from the music store down Kinsey street.
