Jeremiah laughs, it's sort of in a mock manner and it pisses me off.
"And why exactly are you laughing, asshole?"
He hikes the strap of his bag higher up on his shoulder. "Because that's obviously bullshit. Tell me, how does that story end? What did the scientists find out?"
I bite my lip, glaring at him because I do not have an answer to that. I don't even remember what madman case that was. I just remember reading it and knowing that much information.
"My guess is, the scientists couldn't do shit because obviously, our human technology would have nothing on whatever creatures are messing with us."
He starts walking away. Panicking and out of options, I follow behind him.
"So, what's your big idea then? What do you think we should do?"
He doesn't even look back. "Absolutely nothing."
"You can't be serious, don't you have a brain or-"
"I do," he cuts me off, "and my brain is telling me that it's pointless to rat myself out and have the whole school start looking at me like I'm some sort of weirdo."
"Oh." I let out a laugh because this is just too funny. "So, that's the reason you don't wanna speak out? You're scared your stupid reputation is gonna be tainted?"
He stops walking immediately, causing me to almost bump into his back. He turns around, his face blank.
"Actually yeah, I'm scared of my precious reputation being tainted. So, if you still decide to tell people, make sure to pull me out of the story because I'm not gonna corroborate shit."
He turns back around and walks off.
What an ass.
🛸🛸🛸
I have to tell the gang.
It's almost lunch break now and I'm finding it really hard keeping this information to myself, especially from them since I tell them most things. Now, the tricky part is getting them all together. Peyton would rather eat plums (she's allergic) than miss a class, Jenny's the same but it's more because she's scared of facing repercussions and Mike is always hard to find after mornings.
Lunch break is also a no since Peyton has club meetings, Jenny ditches us for her boyfriend's table and that leaves just Mike and I and I don't think I have the energy of telling the story twice.
So, I'm gonna have to shift this further. I text the group on our groupchat.
Dee:
Group hang out at my house after school? I've got orange juice 🥤😉
Mike T:
You lame ass bitch 😒
Dee:
Okay fine, bring your own joint then.
Jenny:
Omg my mom just got these really good mango chips from Brazil!
Dee:
Oh? Bring it!
Mike T:
y'all lame. Imma pass on this one
Dee:
No you can't! I've got something to tell y'all
Mike T:
Don't tell me you're pregnant again
Dee:
😒 I haven't been pregnant before idiot
Mike T:
But you thought you were
Dee:
Well I'm pretty sure I'm not now. In case you haven't noticed, I've been single for a long time
