Jeremiah is the last person Dee should be friends with - after all, he broke her best friend's heart. But when both of them get entangled in a strange extraterrestrial experience, they're forced...
"Um, did you take me out here to check me out?" He has a tone of amusement as he regards me.
I immediately recline from staring, wondering why I didn't just ask him if he's hurt instead of trying to figure it out myself.
"We were abducted by aliens, weren't we?"
He blinks a few times, his eyebrows raised. He's looking at me incredulously like he doesn't even understand where I'm getting at and then I start thinking, why am I just assuming the same thing that happened to me happened to him too?
I haven't really gotten his version of events yet.
"So that's your take on what happened to us?" He chuckles. "I thought you'd be one to have a more rational explanation for what happened last night."
Oh so he did experience it
"Why would you think that?" Why is he acting like he knows me?
"Because Peyton was always going on and on about how none of that shit's real."
I tilt my head a little. "But that's Peyton..."
"Yeah well you're basically her minion so--oops."
With the way the corners of his mouth lifts up slightly in a smirk, I know he very well meant to say that.
I glare, but I don't waste any time on his petty remark. "What happened last night? Can I get your version?"
"Uh, we were in the woods..."
"Hm hmm?"
"There was this huge glowing ball coming from the sky..."
Right on track
"I remember we couldn't move, and then you passed out..."
Wait, he didn't black out when I did?
"And then I passed out as well."
Oh
"And then what?" I question impatiently.
I watch as his green eyes narrows, his smirk growing bigger for some reason.
"You don't remember, do you?"
My heart starts beating fast in my chest again. But unlike this morning's, this time it feels personal.
I eye him skeptically. "Remember what?"
"When we woke up," he says, walking over to the railing and resting his back on it cooly, "in the woods."
Shit. This doesn't sound good.
I try to keep a brave face, crossing my arms over my chest. "What happened?"
"So you really have no idea?"
Oh he's just having a field day over this right now, isn't he? There's a smug on his face, on his overall person, in fact, that's what he's known for. For being an ass. An ass that for some reason, everyone sucks up to. I guess the main reason being his 'good looks'. Green eyes, blonde hair, a (relatively) good jawline and an attitude that makes it known that he knows the privileges his looks gets him and he loves it.
"Have no idea what?"
"What you did."
And by the knowing, smug expression still on his face, I have reasons to believe that what went down in the woods, what I allegedly did, isn't something that I'm gonna be proud of.
