Hockey goes far back into the past. Originated from Egypt in 1,000BC, hockey is now one of the most played sports world wide. Played by the Romans and Greeks, hockey emerged into its modern game in England mid 18th century.

The first hockey association appeared in 1876 in the UK (only lasted 6 years), where the first true set of rules was set in place.

In 1917 the NHA (later NHL) was formed. But it wasn't until 1924 were it started to grow. The NHL now had 6 teams, now known as the Original Six.

The original six: Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Detroit Redwings, Chicago Blackhawk's, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadians.

The first NHL draft was held in 1967. The NHL added 6 more teams to the league, making it a total of 12 teams. As the time went on more teams were introduced into the league, rules changed, and the game grew. Currently (2022) the NHL has 32 teams. The growth of the NHL has brought many fans together, and an inclusive loving space for hockey lovers.
