"I think I'm going to get a new drink, then head outside." I coughed as his hand fell from my waist.
I pushed my way through my friends and the crowd to the kitchen. I could not stop myself from looking over my shoulder. Reid's gaze was fixed on my body as he licked his lips, then he returned his attention to his friends.
I reached for the nearest bottle of Tequila. I retrieved a shot glass from the counter behind me and filled it. Down the hach.
I looked around the kitchen; I recognised a few people from the party, but everyone else was unfamiliar to me. I was never the type to strike up a conversation or step outside the box; I preferred my own little bubble.
"How's Josie these days?" Grayson crept up from behind me. He took the same bottle that I had drunk from and poured himself a shot.
"You are okay with me calling you Josie, right?" I nodded and smiled at the shaggy-haired boy.
"My real name is Josette, but everyone calls me Josie or Jo." He lifted himself onto the counter and peered down at me.
"Josette Huh? thats cute." I could feel my cheeks heat up with the compliment. I leaned my upper body onto the counter and looked up at Grayson through my eyelashes.
"Now that we are friends, you can call me Gray."
"That's cool with me." I smiled once again.
"Can I ask you a question?" I raised myself up with the support of my hands.
"Depends what it is?" He joked.
"Are you in a band?" He laughed out loud and held onto his stomach.
"The amount of people who have asked me that!" I grinned at his response.
"No, I'm not, but I just give that vibe." I nodded and grabbed our shot glasses. "Can I ask you a question now?" I peeked out the corner of my eye as I poured us both a shot.
"What was a girl like you dating an ass like Jaden?" I stopped pouring and watched the liquid in the glass come to a standstill.
"What do you mean a girl like me?"
"You're just so chilled; you don't seem like the type that's obsessed with herself or wants to become insta famous, you know?" I bit my bottom lip and handed him his shot I leaned back against the counter, clutching my glass.
"I guess I saw the best in him before he became the worst version of himself." I shrugged and turned slowly towards Grayson.
"I think that is the problem I have; I see the good in people, and then they turn on me."
"Like Hannah did?" I kept thinking about Hannah and Jaden. Knowing she had been murdered and that her assassin was still on the loose kept me awake at night.
"What are you guys talking about?" Reid entered the kitchen. His focus shifted from us to the two tequila shots in front of him.
"Just that Jaden is the worst person in the world, and Josette over here deserves the world!" I rolled my eyes at Grayson's remark. Reid took the tequila bottle from my hands and poured himself a shot.
"I didn't know your first name was Josette?" He questioned me as he held his shot close to his lips.
"It's suits you." He smirked as he forced his shot down his throat, unaffected by the burning sensation. Grayson and I took our shots and let out a few coughs.
"That's what I said—well, I said it was cute actually." He clarified, while trying to get over the burning sensation.
"Anyway, Cara looks like she needs a dance." He pointed to my friend, who clearly did not need to dance. Grayson dad danced his way over to Cara, who didn't look impressed and tried to runaway from his grasp. She laughed as he lifted her over his shoulder and led them over to the dancefloor.
