The City We (Didn't) Build

I'm in the city we're never going to build
empty walls empty spaces
In the tallest of buildings
the absence of light is darkness

I sit here in the center to gaze upon the stars
But the pattern is a maze and I wonder where you are
Perhaps you are lost in the sea of Tranquility
Can I ever bring you back to me?

I am here, in the garden just out the back of our home
where it's supposed to bloom
I should be hearing the birds sing
But the flowers are not here you see

So our promises to each other are sealed in this place
Now I am left here all alone to stay
And guard the city we're never going to build
