"She said she didn't ask for a schedule change." The ASL translator spoke to the lady in the front office of Xalani's school.

"Most students didn't. Southwest got shut down and the students from over there was placed here, so some of the classes got over filled. Not enough teachers to student ratio, so we had to change multiple students classes around." Ms.Wilson told Xalani, who heavily sighed.

"But I don't know these teachers." She mumbled, referring to the three new classes she had. Every class in her schedule was changed except first period with Mr.Tunello, which she was grateful for.

"You'll get to know them sweetheart. If you want different classes, log on to the portal and see if their available, then text your counselor for another schedule change. Here's your tardy slip, have a great day." She basically dismissed her, and Xalani snatched the slip, turning to walk out.

She was so upset. She hated change, she hated new things. They were two weeks into the school year already, which meant she'd have to reintroduce herself to the new teachers and tell them about how she didn't talk. It was so annoying, and it was like Ms.Wilson wasn't even trying to help her.

She was already having a bad morning since she couldn't find her medication, and she'd smoked all her weed and wouldn't be able to re-up until after school.

She looked up at the door that read 298, her new third period class since she'd skipped first and second. As soon as she walked in, all eyes were on her.

"How can I help you?" The teacher, Ms.Ellis greeted her with a warm smile.

Xalani gave her the piece of paper that showed her new schedule, as well as her tardy slip. Ms.Ellis fixed her glasses on her face so that she could read the papers while Xalani awkwardly stood to the side.

"Hm, okay. Well then, you can take that seat right there next to Leiloni. Leiloni, raise your hand please." Ms.Ellis walked over to her desk, and once the girl raised her hand, Xalani made her way to the empty seat next to her.

"Damn. A nigga can't see and shit." The boy behind her spoke up because of her big hair, and she laid her head on the desk, wanting to disappear.

"Don't start AJ. You lookin' like you wanna eat her." A girl on the opposite side of Xalani laughed, a few others joining in.

"That's Kanai sister. Her fine ass don't even talk, you ain't getting no play from 'dat one." Xalani wondered why wasn't the teacher stopping them as another boy joined in. They were so loud and Xalani's headache was terrible at the moment.

"She is not allat'. This weirdo bitch talk l-l-l-like this." Leiloni waved them off as they laughed at her joke.

"Xalani, talk girl." Leiloni nudged her shoulder, and without thinking her actions through, Xalani's fist swung hard in her direction.
