Michelle looked around. There was no-one in the windows. There was no-one in the doorway. Only her and Buck were near the house. After a long ten seconds of thought, they both decided to leave and tell the rest of the group about what happened.
"There's another message. A ten digit number. Four of them to choose from while three start with two-five-five," explained Michelle, attaching a screenshot of the message to show her friends that she isn't crazy.
"Number three kind of looks like my phone number. Choose that one, see if he moves on to texting me now," stated John, continuously typing and deleting his message. It was obvious that he attempted to hide his nerves, but failed.
"I'm not going to let you do that. I can deal with the messages."
"You want this to end? End it. Play their game."
After much reluctant deciding, she decided to choose number three.
"Good choice. I'll be in touch," the unknown number stated.
Michelle's heart began to beat out of her chest. Thoughts began to stammer out of her mouth.
"What if this was related to Mary?"
"What if John will end up like her?"
"Why did he have to make me decide?"
The words flew from her fingers to the text box.
"If you're gonna make me do this, at least have some company. I'd at least like to sleep tonight."
The bubble kept popping in and out of the chat.
"Fine. Who's staying with me to prove that this is all a hoax?" pinged John.
"I'm with you. Mary must have gotten to Michelle in her final days, nothing bad is going to happen." replied Tara, almost gaslighting her friend.
The clock silently ticked eleven o'clock as Michelle began to drift to sleep.
