Chapter 27 ~ "I'm Just Me"

Start from the beginning

"No...I don't think it's ever come up." I admit, realizing it for myself. But Dane was mature, capable of ignoring stupid things like who my roommates were. "I'm sure it won't bother him."

"Fair, it's not like you can really change anything about it, right?" Mark asks and I laugh with a shrug.

"He's coming to pick me up in about thirty minutes, you guys might get the chance to meet him then." I shrug.

"Cool." Dustin shrugs.

"I'll start brainstorming things to tell him." Mark assures me and I roll my eyes. "How about the fact that you organize the drawers in the vanity in alphabetical order?"

"I think that might just turn him on." I chuckle and they both laugh.

Dane was one organized person, he struck me that way. He seemed like someone who planned more things than me, and that seemed almost impossible.

After about twenty minutes, I heard a knock at the door and I furrowed my eyebrows. I didn't know he'd come down to get me.

I walk to the door opening it up to see Walker on the other side instead. He was red in the face, sweaty, he looked alive and I knew he'd just finished his run.

"Hey, door was locked." He breathes, walking inside and I smile with a shrug. "What's up?" He asks the three of us, going to the kitchen to get a glass of water. He pulls his AirPods out of his ears and shoves them into a case on the kitchen peninsula.

"Annie's man is coming to pick her up." Dustin laughs and I roll my eyes.

"He's not mine, we're just going to work at his place for a few hours." I tell him, gathering up the stuff I need and sliding it back into my bag along with my textbook.

"You and Captain America hit it off?" Walker asks nonchalantly and I roll my eyes. I knew in his heart, some part of this bugged the shit out of him. He just didn't have the ability to admit it, so he'd act like this. Like a bit of a dick about Dane, which was fine.

"I guess so, yeah." I shrug, trying to stay composed. Then I hear another knock and I chuckle. "That has to be him." I smile, walking to the door and I push it open, letting him in. He furrows his eyebrows, looking a bit confused and I grin.

"Hey, come in." I smile and he wraps an arm around me, giving me a brief hug.

"Hi, I got these for you." He says and presents me with a bouquet. My smile sinks a bit when I realize they're red roses. Not more red roses, I'm sure the people who took away the compost this past week thought we'd hosted a funeral with all of Chase's bouquets I'd dumped.

I hear a cough that sounds faintly like a laugh and I look at Mark on the couch. I glare and he immediately knocks it off.

"You like roses?" He asks. "I feel like most girls do."

"T-they're great, let me get a vase." I tell him, putting on my best fake smile.

I walk to the edge of the counter where I'd lined up all of the cheap ones from Chase and I start to walk to the tap.

"Dane, these are my roommates, Dustin and Mark." I tell him gesturing to the two of them on the couch. "And this is Walker." I add, gesturing to him now standing beside me in the kitchen. Just two feet away from a sweaty, post-run Walker.

I look at him and he mouths 'red roses' to which I mouth back 'stop' and he chuckles.

"Nice to meet you, man." Mark says, standing up and giving him a quick strange handshake that only men seem to exchange. Dustin follows suit and Dane digests the situation but I could tell he seemed thrown-off. The three of them exchange some pleasantries when I feel a body creep up behind mine.
