It had been nine months since the battle at Starcourt Mall, and six months since Joyce Byers had moved her sons and Eleven to California. Catherine had found herself a part-time job at the town's small bookstore, just around the corner from the family video store Steve and Robin worked at. She found that she preferred the shop when it was busy, when she was occupied serving customers and stocking shelves her mind was less likely to wander. Cat found herself often thinking about Jim Hopper and Billy Hargrove. She hated the fact that Hopper had sacrificed himself so that Joyce could shut down the gate to the Upside Down. She hated how she felt guilty every time she saw Max Mayfield, angry at herself for being unable to save Billy.

Still without a driver's license, Cat found herself sitting in the passenger seat of Steve's car. The two sat in silence, listening to the music playing quietly from the radio. Occasionally, Steve glanced over to his girlfriend, worried about her. Since the events months prior, he'd noticed that Catherine had become more reserved. He knew, without asking, that she was feeling guilty over Billy and devastated about Hopper. For Cat, it was like losing her father all over again. Just as Steve was about to ask if she was okay, Cat spoke up. "Do you wanna stay over tonight? It's just... Mom's away for work again and Dusty is staying at Mike's. Something to do with Dungeons and Dragons I think."

Steve smiled, turning his gaze back to the road as he drove down the roads of Hawkins. "Of course. Just me, or do you want to ring Rob and Nance to see if they're free for a movie night?"

Cat shook her head, not feeling completely up for a full night of socialising. "Maybe another time. Maybe we could watch an old cheesy film together?" She suggested, watching as Steve turned into her road. "I think we've got some hidden away in the attic."

"Sounds good." Steve nodded, pulling his car into the driveway. Once the car was parked, he followed Cat up to the front door. "Everything okay?" He asked, seeing how Cat paused with her keys in the lock.

She frowned, staring down at the parcel that was sitting on the door-mat. "Yeah, I just- I don't remember Mom saying to look out for any packages."

Steve bent down to get a closer look at the brown box. Above him, Cat continued to unlock the front door, pushing it open to reveal the dark hallway. "I don't think it's for your Mom." He whispered, reading the inscription.

"What?" Cat asked, spinning around. Steve stood up, handing the box to her. "Oh-" She gasped, reading the label.

"Who do you think sent it?" Steve asked, knowing the girl hadn't ordered anything recently. Cat shrugged, taking the box into her house and switching the lights on. She set the parcel on the coffee table and took a seat on the couch opposite it. Steve followed after her, shutting the door behind him. "Does anyone even know what your middle name is?" He asked, watching Cat stare warily at the package.
