Kageyama lets out a sigh as he walks into the park and sits on one of the swings as tears run freely on his face after running away from Oikawa and Sugawara.
Kageyama "💭I knew it."
Kageyama "💭I knew that there wasn't any hope for me to get back with Oikawa."

Kageyama chokes on his tears as they seem endless.
Kageyama "..."
Kageyama "💭There isn't any hope for me now."
Kageyama "💭He made it clear."

Kageyama "💭I didn't have a chance from the start..."

Kageyama hugs himself and starts rubbing his back slowly, but the tears never end.

Kageyama "💭He just didn't want to reject me."
Kageyama "💭So, he dated me for a bit and then let go."

Kageyama "💭But that hurt me, Oikawa."

Kageyama "💭I was ready to be rejected."
Kageyama "💭I knew from the start that I didn't have a chance."
Kageyama "💭I knew he would not go out with me."

Kageyama "💭So, why did he get my hopes up?"

Kageyama "💭It kind of makes sense."
Kageyama "💭I confessed. Oikawa didn't like me."
Kageyama "💭So, rather than rejecting me."
Kageyama "💭He gave me a chance to see if he could return my feelings."
Kageyama "💭But I am so horrible he couldn't tolerate me."
Kageyama "💭And broke up with me the first chance he got."
Kageyama "💭But he is so nice."
Kageyama "💭I must have annoyed him so much."
Kageyama "💭I kept on insisting on meeting up."
Kageyama "💭And he used to say yes to some of my requests."
Kageyama "💭He was so nice."
Kageyama "💭Even if he didn't tolerate me."
Kageyama "💭He still managed some time for me."

Kageyama "💭He didn't want to hurt me by saying I was such a terrible person he couldn't like me even after dating for a few months."
Kageyama "💭So, he broke up with me but continued to meet me."
Kageyama "💭Maybe he could fall for me."
Kageyama "💭He even said: we can try when we are adults if we don't find someone else."
Kageyama "💭People change over time."
Kageyama "💭That is why he said that."
Kageyama "💭He was hoping I would change to be better."

Kageyama "💭But now he have Sugawara-san..."
Kageyama "💭I cannot even be with him anymore."
Kageyama "💭He has an outstanding person near him."
Kageyama "💭So, he will never look at trash like me."

Kageyama "💭Am I really this bad?"

Kageyama sat in the swing with his face covered with dried tears staring blankly into nothing.

Kageyama "💭I should probably head home before Miwa gets worried."
Kageyama "💭But...I don't even have the energy to move."
Kageyama stayed in his place for hours, swinging every once in a while and staring into emptiness.
Kindaichi "..."
Kindaichi "Kageyama?"
Kageyama looks up and stares at the figure in front of him before he starts to focus his eye to see Kindaichi looking worried at him. Kageyama lets out a sigh before he looks at his feet.
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "I-is everything fine?"
Kageyama nods without looking at Kindaichi.
Kindaichi "Hmmm."
Kageyama sighs again and stands up when he sees Kindaichi not leaving.
Kindaichi "Wait."
Kageyama halts and looks at Kindaichi before he tilts his head waiting for him to speak.
Kindaichi "Hmmm."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "I have to go."
Kindaichi "Right, but hmmm."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "I-if you need someone to talk to, I still have the same number from middle school."
Kageyama just nods and starts walking home as he checks his phone.
Kageyama "💭It is already 2:00 AM."
Kageyama "💭Miwa will be so worried."
Kageyama lets out another sigh as he continues to walk.

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. As Kindaichi and Kunimi walk to school.
Kindaichi "..."
Kunimi "..."

Kunimi "Tsk..."

Kunimi lets out a sigh and stops, making Kindaichi stop too since they were holding hands.
Kindaichi "I-is something wrong?"
Kunimi "..."
Kindaichi "What is wrong, Akira?"
Kunimi "..."
Kindaichi "If we don't start walking again, we will be late for practice."
Kunimi "What were you thinking about so hard that you didn't realize I called you?"
Kindaichi "Did you call me?"
Kunimi "No, not at all."
Kunimi "I imagined calling you."
Kunimi lets go of Kindaichi's hand and starts walking.
Kindaichi "Wait, Akira."
Kindaichi "I am sorry..."
Kunimi "What is disturbing you?"
Kindaichi "K-Kageyama...."
Kunimi "Him? Again?"
Kunimi "What now?"
Kindaichi "I-I know you don't like to talk about him."
Kindaichi "That is why I didn't want to mention what happened."

Kindaichi "I met him yesterday-"

Kindaichi "Akira."

Kunimi "Anyway, back to Kageyama?"
Kindaichi "There isn't anything else about him."
Kunimi "What happened that you are this disturbed?"
Kindaichi "..."

Kindaichi "He looked so broken."
Kunimi stops in his tracks and looks at Kindaichi.
Kunimi "Broken?"
Kindaichi "Yeah..."
Kindaichi "Yes, his eyes were empty."
Kindaichi "Like he is a shell."
Kunimi "Damn."
Kindaichi "Yeah..."
Kunimi "Do you want to know what happened to him?"
Kindaichi "Yeah..."
Kindaichi "If he wants to tell me..."
Kindaichi "I told him I still had the same number if he wanted to call."
Kunimi "Okay."
Kindaichi "..."
Kunimi "What?"
Kindaichi "Is it okay if he calls me?"
Kunimi "As long as you tell me."

Kunimi "He sounds like he needs someone."
Kunimi "We still were his childhood friends."
Kunimi "If he still wants to talk to us..."
Kunimi "He might want to talk to someone from Karasuno."
Kindaichi "Yeah..."
Kindaichi "Or Oikawa-san."
Kunimi "Oikawa-san?"
Kindaichi "Yeah."
Kunimi "Why him?"
Kindaichi "Aren't they dating?"
Kunimi "No, they broke up a long time ago."
Kindaichi "Huh?"
Kunimi "I believe we were still in the first year of middle school."
Kindaichi "Oh..."

Kindaichi "B-but I saw them together a couple of times after that..."
Kunimi "Oh, then I don't know..."
Kunimi "Maybe they got back together."
Kunimi "Or they have an on and off relationship."
Kindaichi "Yeah..."
A few moments have passed as they walk toward Aoba Johsai, before Kindaichi's phone pings.
Kindaichi "Hmm..."
Kindaichi "Akira?"
Kunimi "Hmmm?
Kindaichi "Kageyama wants us to meet."
Kunimi "Now?"
Kindaichi "No, he said on Sunday."
Kunimi "Oh...okay..."
Kindaichi "But we have a date then, I will postpone-"
Kunimi "No, it is fine."
Kindaichi "But-"
Kunimi "Tell him to meet you in the morning before you come to my place."
Kunimi "Just let me sleep in for one Sunday."
Kindaichi "..."
Kindaichi "So, it is fine."
Kunimi "Yes."
Kindaichi "Okay."
Kindaichi "But I won't spend so much time with him."
Kunimi "..."
Kindaichi "I will still wake you up early."
Kunimi "Ugh."
Kindaichi laughs as he grabs Kunimi into a teddy bear hug before he starts kissing both of his cheeks.
Kunimi "Okay.. okay...stop."
Kunimi giggles as he hugs Kindaichi back tightly.
Kunimi "I love you, Yuu."
Kindaichi "I love you too, Akira."
Kindaichi kisses Kunimi one more time before they resume walking to school while holding hands.

Sunday, August 5, 2012. Kageyama arrived 30 minutes before the meeting time. Around 8:00 AM, Kindaichi finally arrives.
Kindaichi "Hey, sorry I am late."
Kageyama "It is fine."
Kageyama "I was so early."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "Hmmm..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "I am sorry..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "Hmmm..."
Kindaichi "About what happened during middle school."
Kageyama "I should be the one apologizing..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "I had no right to speak to any of you like that or control you..."
Kageyama "It was my fault, I deserve-"
Kindaichi "No, that is not-"
Kageyama "But it is..."
Kindaichi "I guess both of us were wrong..."

Kindaichi "We should have talked to you or something rather than teaming up on you to kick you out of the game."

Kindaichi "Can I ask you why you were so sad the other day?"
Kageyama smiles weakly before he shakes his head.
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama lets out a sigh.
Kindaichi "I am just worried about you."
Kindaichi "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Kindaichi "But you have to know I will be here for you if you need anything from me."
Kageyama "..."
Kageyama "It is..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "It isn't that I don't trust you."
Kageyama "And I don't want to tell you."
Kageyama "It is just h-hard-"
Kagayama swallows a lump in his throat as tears start to fill his eyes.
Kindaichi directly stands up and sits near Kageyama and hugs him. Kageyama's tears start to fall freely as he grips Kindaichi's shirt and buries his face in his neck.
Kindaichi "Everything will be alright."
Kageyama "Mmm."
Kindaichi continues to calm Kageyama down as the latter continues to cry on Kindaichi's shoulder.
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "You don't have to answer if you don't want to."
Kageyama "Okay."
Kindaichi "Are you and Oikawa-san still dating?"
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama's shoulders tense up at the mention of Oikawa's name and he takes a deep breath before he answers.
Kageyama "No."
Kindaichi "Oh, when did you 2 break up?"
Kageyama "B-before Oikawa-san graduated from middle school..."
Kindaichi "Huh?"
Kindaichi "But I saw you a couple of times hanging out later..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "Did you 2 get back together?"
Kageyama "N-no."
Kindaichi "Oh..."
Kageyama "..."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "Oikawa-san said that we won't have time to date after he graduated when we broke up..."
Kindaichi "Oh..."
Kageyama "So, I tried my best to keep my Sundays off so we could hang out..."
Kageyama "I wanted to prove that we could have time even if he graduated."
Kageyama chuckles before a sad smile appears on his face.
Kageyama "If I think about it now."
Kageyama "Oikawa-san used to avoid my question about dating again."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "He used to say meeting 1 or 2 times a month is not enough."
Kageyama's smiles disappear as he starts to fidget with his fingers.
Kageyama "Or he would say once we are adults or after we graduate from school."
Kindaichi "..."
Kageyama "But he finally told me the truth..."
Kindaichi "Truth."
Kageyama "Hmmm."
Kageyama "That day when you saw me..."
Kindaichi "Oh..."
Kageyama "He told me he never-"
Kageyama sniffs, trying his best not to cry again.
Kindaichi "You don't have to tell me."
Kageyama "He told me that I had no chance."
Kageyama "He said he never liked me..."
Kageyama buries his face in his hands and starts crying as Kindaichi clenches his hands before he grabs Kageyama's hands from his face, and starts to wipe Kageyama's tears with his thumbs and grabs Kageyama into another hug.
Kindaichi "💭You must be kidding me, Oikawa-san."
Kindaichi "💭Did he lead on Kageyama for no reason?"
Kindaichi "💭Or was Kageyama just a backup plan, in case he doesn't find someone he likes?"
Kindaichi "..."
Kindaichi "💭That is not important now."
Kindaichi "💭Kageyama is."
Kageyama stays in Kindaichi's embrace for a few minutes before he pulls himself away and looks at Kindaichi.
Kageyama "Thank you, Kindaichi, for everything."
Kindaichi "You are welcome."
Kindaichi glances at his watch and lets out a deep sigh.
Kindaichi "I am so sorry, Kageyama, but I have to leave now."
Kageyama "Oh..."
Kindaichi "Call me if you need anything, okay?"
Kageyama "Okay, thank you and sorry again for my previous behavior."
Kindaichi "Stop bringing that up."
Kindaichi "It is already behind us."
Kindaichi "Later."
Kindaichi pays before he starts running towards Kunimi's house... The story continues next week.
