Three Letters

"Mine is from my mother," he moaned. "You get anything good?" He threw the envelopes towards me with all of them landing on the table. I picked up the one closest to me. "This one must be my response from Pansy." I smiled looking at the Parkinson family crest of the back.

Before I could read the others however Lucas snapped them up. "I'd recognise these handwritings anywhere. Why are Nate and more importantly Wren writing to you?"

"It's a private matter," I said snapping them back off him. 

"I demand to know." He practically shouted.

"Well good luck with that," I said smugly and tucked the letters into my jeans pocket. He looked like he could spit fire if he opened his mouth. I however was past feeling sorry for the sod so I turned to everyone else. "I made a list of items that I need to buy in town today. Just a few groceries but I -"

"Oh, Theo can you get my jumper for me?" Azalea asked suddenly.

"Eh yeah sure," he answered and headed off upstairs as Lucas stomped off to the garden. 

As soon as he was out of earshot, Azalea turned to me. She had a bit of a panicked look on her face. "Rae, can you help me? I have nothing for Theo for Christmas!"

"You have been...well...busy so he knows you wouldn't have been able to buy him something." Draco offered but she just sighed.

"I know. And I know he wouldn't care. But I would!" She sighed again and looked to be on the verge of tears. I stepped forward and wrapped an arm around her.

I knew exactly what to do. "I can help. I can buy him something when I am out today. What would you like to gift him?"

"I've no clue!" She pouted. 

"Don't worry we will find something in town. I promise." Draco said.

"You are too good. I don't have a lot of money. Only whatever was in my vault when I was sentenced. My parent's vault is still frozen. But there may be enough for something little -"

"I will buy it for you," I said. She began to protest but I was having none of it. I was happy to help out. Besides I'd probably just spend it on junk I do not need. "You can pay me back someday." Theo came back with her sweater so she couldn't protest again.

Then I remembered my letters. I tore open Pansy's first.

Hey doll,
I was going to write to you today anyway so I was delighted to see your letter float into my room (you have to show me how you did that - it's amazing).
Thanks for the warning on the jumper. He bought it anyway and it arrived this morning from Theo so I am glad I know not to get Blaise to wear it. In fact, I may even regift it to Theo. Let's see what his grandma thinks of the explosion.
And thanks for ruining my makeup last night. Calling me your sister. I swear it is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. And I feel the exact same. I love you, sis.
Funny you should mention Wren...he is home. Arrived before I did. He is keeping a very low profile so he is only here until Boxing Day and then heading to the US for a while. The look on his face when I said that you were my closest friend - priceless!
He has asked me about you non-stop since then. Oh wait here he bloody comes now...
Sorry about that. Another round of 'what is Raelyn like these days'. He is still a little hung up on you I guess.

I told him all about Lucas. He was livid. He says he will speak to you about him on his own so expect a letter from him anytime. But he warned me to be careful around him. He said he was a decent enough friend and that he was probably an ok father but when he took a liking to a girl he was relentless in his pursuit.

I guess you're not the first girl. Sorry to break it to you but Lover Boy sounds like a player.
How is Azalea? Will you tell her I was asking after her and I hope she is ok? We were never that close and Theo didn't leave her alone but she was always very sweet to me. And she clearly has good taste in friends with you so she must be alright. Haha.

I would love to come and visit. Maybe before New Year's? Do you have any plans for that evening? Blaise and I were thinking of visiting then to ring in the new year with you guys.

I passed the letter to Draco who scanned it and passed it to Theo and Azalea. I then opened the second letter. This one was from Nate.

Well hello, stranger,
It's lovely to hear from you. I was thinking about you a few weeks ago and going to write to see if you were ok. I got your letter before the wedding. It was a shame you missed it. It was a great day.
Layla sends her love and says that you absolutely HAVE to visit someday soon. She adores you. I don't think she will take no for an answer so you may just do it. Make life easier for us all. And thank you for the gift. It was far too generous of you but very much appreciated.

I am sorry for everything you experienced over the summer. I was filled in a little by Lucas and a bit by Andromeda. It's just awful what you have had to put up with. It's unfair. Your father was always unfair to you though. But what he said about the wrong sibling dying?

Raelyn you know that is not what Cedric would say! He would have done anything and everything to protect you.

I have no idea if you know this but when he was first accepted into the tournament, he got me, Lucas and Wren together and made us promise that we would look after you if anything happened to him during the trials.

And we all made the promise.

Well I mean we all know Wren did a little more than look after you (you can't see me smirking but I am). I actually thought you made a good couple. That was until I heard about him and his new buddies.

I'm just grateful that you had the sense not to join them.

I heard you bought yourself a house. Good woman yourself. You know Cedric would be proud of everything you do.

Thanks for the update on Lucas. Unfortunately, I haven't seen him in a few weeks but the last time I saw him he was spouting crap about wanting to be with you.
I love Lucas like a brother but I wouldn't exactly trust him. He has no regard for women at all. When we were in Hogwarts I used to think he was amazing. He could be charming and sweet to women and have them eating out of the palms of his hands.
He is a great friend but he definitely isn't someone I would recommend for you. I want you to be happy.
Let me speak with him. I will tell him you have a boyfriend and to back off. Speaking of boyfriends you are with Draco Malfoy? He was the blonde kid in your year, right? Was a death eater but changed sides last minute in the battle?
From what I hear (and you know I have been snooping) he is a great kid now and we all know he gave Harry his wand to defeat...him.
The only thing I care about is he makes you happy and treats you well.
If not tell him I will be seeing him.

Again I handed it to Draco who read it and passed it along. "So I better treat you well or I will have this Nate guy after me?" He smirked.

"Nate is a great guy," Azalea smiled looking up at him. "He is like a brother to us." I nodded in response. Lucas, who I didn't even know was back in the dining room, scoffed. 

"Didn't you say you made out with him?" Theo asked me. Draco's head shot in my direction. Again Lucas scoffed and then stormed out of the room when I didn't let him see the letter.

"It was one time. I was mad at Dean and he was mad at Laila. We made out, realised it was weird and vowed never to talk about it again. I shouldn't have said anything to Lucas but he pissed me off." I scowled. 

"Yeah, it was like it never happened," Azalea explained. "Then she began to date Wren."

"That brings us full circle. This one," I said pulling out the last letter. "Is from Wren."
