Although they still had a good time, November had gotten quieter, almost a bit awkward. It was out of character, but luckily she hid it well.
She ended her stream before hanging upbwith the guys, and then she went to say goodbye to them.
"Thank you guys for having me. This was really fun." She smiled.
"Of course," Carson said.
"Yeah, we should all hang out in person too." Charlie suggested, "Maybe Ember can school us with her cooking skills."
She laughed, "You know I will." After a pause, she said that she had to get going and all of them said goodbye.
Taking off her headset she sighed, running her hands through her hair. Her breathing became uneven and she felt herself start to shake.
Hearing that voice, that name, it brought back everything she had tried so desperately to forget. Why did he have to be there? She hoped that he hadn't recognized her, after all it had been four years.
Surely those memories had withered away in his mind like she's tried to do.
Litte did she know, on the other end, thoughts were running through a mans mind.
He knew exactly who she was. He's known for a long time, ever since he stumbled upon one of her cooking streams a couple monthst before. Of course, he didn't want to believe it was her. It made him feel bad.
All the memories came rushing back to him, but he assumed she had forgotten. She didn't seem to react when he said he thought he knew her. But November had always been good at hiding her emotions.
Schlatt had always wondered where she went. After that day, she just disappeared. The family moved out and her phone number was no longer in service. It was like she never existed.
As much as he hoped that she would've forgotten, he knew she didn't. She couldn't even if she wanted to.
Because that's just how November is.
A Week Later:
November rubbed the cotton towel around her head, attempting to slightly dry her hair. She stepped out into the hall, her super baggy band t-shirt and covering most of her pink pajama shorts.
She sighed, walking into the living room, where her roommates were cuddling on the couch.
"Hey, how was the shower?" Hailey asked with a smile, and November gave her a look.
"What do you want me to say to that? Alone?" The two girls on the couch laughed, and it made her smile.
Cassie's eyes widened, and she looked at November, "Oh, by the way, you're phone has been going off like crazy."
Her eyebrow raised with curiosity. Who could possibly be blowing up her phone? There was only a couple options, but the only ones she could think of would be a family emergency.
Or her brother sending memes.
She walked over to the kitchen where her phone sat on the counter. The cool tile hit her bare feet, and she gingerly, as if expecting the worst.
Instead, she was pleasantly delighted to see that it was nothing awful at all. In fact, it was better than not awful.
Her phone was blown up with notifications from twitter, all from an account called Lunch Club.
She knew who it was instantly, and it made her laugh as she read the tweets.
The first one directed at her said
Poking @Embers_In_November every five minutes until she responds to our war cries
November laughed as she scrolled, and decided to respond.
@LunchClub, Poke the bear again and it might want to cuddle ;)
It didn't even take a minute for her to get a DM from the account. It was from Ted, whom she had already started talking to seperately. They were friendly, like she was now with Slimecicle, or Charlie.
Her eyes widened at the message. Phone still in hand, she sat down on the couch. She didn't know what to think, and definitely didn't notice that Hailey had now leaned over curiously.
"Oh my god, Emmi! You gotta go!" She smiled broghtly, and November looked at her with an expressionless stare.
Hailey then grabbed the phone and started typing. This ripped November away from her surprise, "Hal, wait-"
"Too late." Cassie grinned, and then the two stopped.
There was a look of pure dread on her face. The women looked at each other worriedly. Hailey's hand went to Novembers shoulder, "Em, what happened that day?"
Eyes glazed with melancholy, November stared into her roommate, and best friend's eyes.
"He's with them..." Sorrow dripped from her voice, and there didn't need to be any more clarification. She already knew: There was only one person she reacted this way to.
Hailey sighed, hugging her best friend tight, "Want me to say nevermind you're busy?"
November shook her head, "No... I like them, Hal. I really do. They're fun and cool and if we could be friends that would be great. And this is an awesome oppurtunity. I just... I'm not sure I can look at him, Hal." Her voice was rocky as she spoke, and when she stopped her breathing was shallow. She wasn't crying, but she was close.
Hailey put her hand on her face, "Hey, look at me." November looked up, "I think you should go. Don't let that asshole stop you from doing what makes you happy. And hey, maybe it'll go better than expected."
She nodded, "Maybe..."
"And if you want to come back at any point, I will get on that plane and fly you back over here with me."
November laughed, rubbing her nose, "Thank you, Hailey."
