Slight warning: mentions or being malnourished but it's brief :)

Carson looked around. He was standing on his doorstep as he waited for Scout to pick him up. He felt like he had been standing there for way too long, thinking logically, he had only been there for twenty minutes.

He wasn't mad at Scout for being slow, since the time he said he would pick him up hadn't even passed yet. He had come outside and started waiting too early, he was eager to see the boy again. That smile felt like it was out of this world.

And he wanted to see it again, it has been in all of his dreams and warmed his heart every time.

Stupid feelings.

Oh, there he was. A blue Honda stopped next to his house, it wasn't a new car and had its fair share of bumps and scratches.

There was a photo taped onto a string hanging from his overhead mirror of him and his twin looking several years younger. Scout hopped out of the car and quite literally ran over to Carson and smiled brightly.

"Hey! I'm super super super sorry I'm late, some stuff happened at my house and then my car didn't start! Oh-" he paused to look at Carson. His eyebrows raised with an unreadable expression

"You sure you want to wear that?" He said with a bit of caution to his voice. Carson raised an eyebrow inquisitively.

"What do you mean? This is what I always wear?" He said, referencing his green turtle neck and lab coat. It was clean, or he at least thought it was clean. He had been in a rush this morning.

"Maybe something a bit lighter, it gets really hot and I don't want you to pass out!" He laughed lightly, "So maybe shorts? You look very nice on the other hand. Sorry to make you change I just want you to be comfortable, since I know how it feels to be hot all day and- um yeah, sorry"

The last part of his sentence was said with a bit of embarrassment as he rubbed the back of his neck. Carson smiled. Cute.

"It's no problem, I should've prepared more I guess. Please excuse me." He shot the other boy his most charming smile and shut the door to go and change into some proper attire.

After a few minutes, he ran outside again ready for the weather.

Scout was sitting down and was looking around with a smile, he noticed Carson and stood up moving his hand in a motion to indicate coming

"Ok, great! You look awesome! Let's go!"

He said, standing up and opening the door for Carson to the passenger seat and then walking over to the other side and going inside his car. Carson could feel his face flush at the nice gesture as he climbed into the car. It was quite clean, Scout was smiling as he started the car and began to drive.

Carson knew better than to annoy the driver so he took in the environment.

It smelled like holiday cookies and joy, in the backseat there was a first aid kit that looked old and empty. An abundance of full water bottles littered the ground of varying brands.

Far too many water bottles for one person to have in their car, some sleeping bags were about to fall off one of the chairs. They were all well used.

"Sorry, it's kind of a mess back there. I was in kind of a rush." Scout said sheepishly, noticing the other's gaze, successfully turning Carson's attention over to him.

"It's okay, I really don't care." He paused to chuckle "My car is way worse."

He dragged out the word "way" so it lasted for more syllables to exaggerate his point.
