an ocean of silence

you are sat so close,
yet feel so far, distancing from me as the silence lingers.
it always followed us as it does with others.
we used to find it solemn and welcomed.
this time, it felt like it was engulfing us wave after wave, barring us from oxygen.
i prayed for words to drain the sea of silence;
waiting for three little words to dry me of the tear-formed oceans.
in my head i okay previous occasions when that three-worded sentence was said to me.
i imagine you saying it now,
but the sound of silence is too busy filling the car.
i say it and feel a sense of piquancy on my tongue.
but you taste nothing.
