Chapter 24: Something Special

How Nelanie came to be. That's all I have to say.

That night, when the lads and their girlfriends were at the Campbell residence, is where it all started.

Melanie and Niall sat close, chatting along with everyone else.

Melanie sighed, getting up.

"Where are you going Mel?" Ashton asked.

"I'm going to pick up some things from the grocery store, anyone want anything?" she asked.

The boys all shook their heads no, along with Eleanor and Danielle.

"I can come with you if you'd like?" Niall offered, getting up.

Melanie grinned. "Sure, why not?"

"Then let's go." Niall said, going to the front door.

Melanie followed, taking her coat off the rack at the front door and putting it on.

"Be back in a few guys!" Melanie said, opening the door.

When the pair had left, the lads, Dani, El, and Ashton snickered.

"Twenty pounds they get together in a week." Louis said, grinning like a madman.

"Twenty says tonight." Harry said, taking out his wallet.

Everyone laughed as the two shook hands.

Meanwhile, Niall and Melanie were at the grocery shop, fooling around....well mainly just Niall.

"Niall, we can't get all the chocolate. I'm on a budget!" Melanie said, laughing as Niall dumped bags of Hershey Chocolate Kisses into the trolley.

"Who said you were paying?" Niall said, grinning widely.

Melanie sighed. "Okay, I'm going to get the milk and eggs from the back and I'll meet you back here. Sounds good?"

"Yeah." Niall replied, too preoccupied with stocking the trolley with junk.

Melanie shook her head as she walked to the back of the shop, picking up a box of milk.

Not even a second later, she heard a crash coming from the front of the store.

"Please don't be Niall..." she repeated quietly under her breath.

As she approached the front, she saw packs to paper towel and chocolate everywhere.

She giggled lightly as she looked for Niall through the havoc.

Sure enough, Niall was at the bottom if the pile, laughing till his face turned red.

Melanie pulled him up from the pile, laughing a bit herself.

"Nialler, what happened?" She asked.

"Well I was trying to do a wheelie with the cart but then I lost control so I crashed into the pyramid of paper towel." He said, trying not to laugh.

Melanie smiled, starting to pick up the contents from the floor.

"Leprechaun, what am I going to do with you?" She asked, looking at Niall.

Niall just stared, a smile of adoration on his face.

He's fancied Melanie from the moment he'd laid eyes on her and he just couldn't take it any longer.

He took a step closer, making Melanie's breath hitch.

"This." He replied, leaning in slowly for permission.

Melanie nodded, closing her eyes and leaning in.

Their lips barely brushed before they heard someone clearing their throat.

They both jumped away from each other, wide eyed.

The manager.

"I can't believe you got us kicked out of the grocery shop!" Melanie laughed.

Niall laughed, thinking back on the trouble they had just gotten into.

Neither of them dared to bring up the almost kiss, in fear of questioning their friendship.

"I wanted to impress the cashier at the front." He laughed.

Melanie laughed along, but couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.

"C'mon." Niall said, taking her hand suddenly.

"Where are we going?" Mel asked, following closely behind Niall in the darkness.

"You'll see." He replied, a small smile on his face.

They walked in silence, lost in their own thoughts.

Soon, the approached a small park with lamp posts lighting up the centre pavement.

"Aw Niall, this is so cute!" Melanie admired the small park in awe.

"Isn't it?" Niall asked. That's when the thought occurred to him.

"May I have this dance, m'lady?" Niall asked, holding out a hand to Melanie.

She giggled and curtsied. "Of course you may!"

She wrapped her hands behind Niall's neck as he rested his hands at her waist.

Niall began to sing softly, a much slower version of a song he thought fit this night perfectly.

"Yeah, I've been watching you all night, there's somethin' in your eyes saying, "C'mon, c'mon, and dance with me, baby." Yeah, the music is so loud, I wanna be yours now, so c'mon, c'mon, and dance with me, baby."

Melanie's face was expressionless as Niall sang to her, dancing slowly in the middle of the park.

When he finished, he leaned in this time, knowing there would be no interruptions.

Melanie leaned in, her eyes fluttering closed as her lips brushed against his.

Their lips moved in sync as they both tightened their grasp on each other.

Melanie couldn't help but think how fan fiction cliché her life was at that very moment.

She smiled through the kiss, thinking that she was the luckiest girl in the world right now to be kissing Niall Horan.

They both pulled away, resting their heads against each other.

"I love you Mel."

"I love you too leprechaun."

That night, they returned back to Melanie's house, hands intertwined.

When they walked in, all eyes were on them.

Harry turned to Louis, grinning widely. "Pay up mate, I won!"

Everyone laughed as Melanie turned red and Niall face palmed himself.

They both knew this was the start of something special.
