"As I've said, I turned her down in the gym," I said with slight fake irritation in my voice, signaling that they were just paraphrasing the questions. "I ended our conversation right away; she bothered my reps."

"Did you get her number?"

"She offered her calling card, but I didn't accept it," I answered for the nth time. "That was the first and last time I saw her."

"Tinignan mo ba yung calling card?" After a few moments of observation, Shaina finally asked me a question.

I looked at her with the most uninterested gaze I could muster, "She offered it, kaya syempre, I looked at it."

She crossed her arms and leaned on her seat. Although she still appeared annoyed with my lies, she seemed more composed this time. Maybe because it's not just the interviewer and her who are currently searching for information. There's one person who's with us in the room.

Is he a superior? I don't know. But by the looks of it, he appears a little older and more experienced in this field than Shaina, so I'm extra careful.

"I've been babysitting the child outside in my rest house in Lipa too," I was referring to Debbie, who was probably waiting outside the room. "A friend asked me to look after her. I can't delay my little vacation, so I took her with me."

"May I ask why you can't delay it?" the guy finally spoke.

I smiled genuinely.

"You see, it's my late older brother's birthday today," the interviewer stopped typing on her laptop. "I was supposed to avoid the city at this time of year, but how could I ignore Officer Cabrera's effort to pick me up from Lipa? That would have meant wasting two hours of a professional policewoman's time, you know?"

Nobody answered.

I crossed my arms, "I've allowed you to search my rest house. Did you see something? No, right? Do you want to see my apartment too?"

The interviewer exchanged a quick glance with Shaina and the superior guy before returning her focus to her laptop.

Oh, she's fuming. I thought to myself. The way Shaina stretched her fingers and clenched her fist showed how short-tempered she is. This explains why, even if Shaina's intuition is beyond recognizable, she can't touch or arrest me without solid evidence and patience.

She is really the exact opposite of her husband.

After two or three questions, the boring question-and-answer session finally ended.
