"Or.." You turned your back to him again. "We just STAY UP and see what happens? Eh? I don't think I've officially pulled an all-nighter in over twenty years...but we might just learn something from it!" Though there was some hesitation from Herobrine, he eventually gave in, agreeing to stay up the whole night just to see what would happen.

You both sat in the grass outside, your backs against your front wall. Night was upon you. It was easier that way, since your bed was like a magnet calling your name the more time passed. It was already past 2 to 3 AM. You RARELY stayed up past 9, so this was already a bit of a stretch for you. Herobrine didn't seem tired like you, but he appeared to be conflicted in some other way. Occasionally, he would suggest you two just go to sleep...but you were adamant about finding out what was behind the strange things going on. He just didn't seem as concerned about it as you. Probably because he wasn't getting those strange nightmares.
Herobrine sat, like you, with his knees resting against his chest, his arms wrapping around them. The two of you sat side by side so your shoulders were touching. He didn't know WHY you had decided to sit outside, especially out in the cold. It wasn't dangerously cold...but it sure wasn't comfortable to sit in, hence your closeness to each other.
Herobrine had to be very careful now that your minds were in a way...connected. It must have been a product of his... ability. Just, the process was slowed severely, since he reserved his kisses as much as possible. Still was hard to keep himself from placing a peck on your cheek from time to time as you slept.
(This guy is such a creep. 😂)
You two sat silently, listening to the sound of the wilderness, little creatures, and soft wind all around. After some silence, you focused your attention, speaking through your mind so you didn't have the chance to alert any potential does as you waited.
'...If the one responsible for all of this turns out to be you... I'm going to f###ing kill you..' Your brows creased, side-eyeing the glowing eyed man. Herobrine's eyes widened a little.
'Wow. Hostile much?'
'I'm NOT joking!' A verbal huff escaped your nose. Herobrine leaned his back against the cold cobblestone wall a little. It was only then that Herobrine realized how he had been played. You weren't only just waiting for a mysterious source to appear and answer all your problems.. but you were studying Herobrine as well, seeing how he would react, test to see if HE was the root cause of all of this. He would have to be REALLY careful with his next statement.
'It isn't me... But, even if it was, then I sure would deserve it.. In all honesty, I want to stay here because I am scared as well. I have been having the same nightmares too.. just.. didn't want to share... I hate seeing how the nightmares are affecting you. But, I feel hopeless not knowing what it could be... I truly am sorry.' Figured that would speak well to your gullible heart.
It did.
You leaned in, resting your head on his good shoulder, sighing a little. 'Thanks for telling me... I.. just wish you were more upfront verbally... I know you struggle with communication, but, you really scare me sometimes...' You half vented. Herobrine only nodded slightly.
'...You are the first friend I have ever had...'
'Friend?'
'...Yeah. At least.. I HOPE you will consider me one... I sure do after all the things you have done for me.'
"Mm." You hummed the small verbal cue of agreement. You sure had done a lot, but, at least Herobrine helped around however he could to try to make up for it. For that, you gave him some credit. ...At least he cared.
Snap!
A twig broke in the distance. Both of your heads jerked to the right, eyeing a strange humanoid creature in the darkness. Ah... Right on time. Standing there was a hunched, tall but lean form. Its skin was ebony black, its outfit a basic white robe. Two red eyes peered out from the darkness.
"What is THAT!?!" You shrieked, standing up I an instant. Herobrine was quick to follow. He knew.
The red eyes widened, followed by the being quickly turning and running away. You gave chase, a not so hard task since the strange one's robe was pure white. Herobrine followed at a steady pace close behind you. The robed one itself tripped and stumbled through the forest, but it's long legs carried it far and quickly. You yourself could barely see the shadow coated floor, but at least your eyes had adjusted well enough to tell the difference between a bush and not a bush.
"Herobrine, can't you teleport?!" Your head rounded back to eye the white eyed man, who didn't seem as intent about the chase. As if just remembering, though, Herobrine actually put in some effort by teleporting in front of the white robed creature and punching it square in the face! The robed one fell back into the leaves, teleporting away quickly in a puff of purple ash-like particles as the threatening man neared. "NOO!" You screamed, all sight of the target completely lost from sight.
Shrugging, "That's why I didn't want to teleport."
"Well, who ELSE do you know of that can teleport like you?! Aren't like a thousand years old or something; surely you would know!" You swung your arms around like a maniac as you drew nearer. At least...you no longer suspected it to be Herobrine...
"I...don't quite know..." Scratching his chin. "There are quite a few to choose from. I'll have to think about it..."
"Well then... What if they come back..?" You asked, genuinely worried now. Now that you had an ominous figure to correlate all those nightmares to, your stomach squirmed at the thought of it returning.
"That part is easy.." Herobrine chuckled, simply unable to hold back a boyish smile. "We watch over each other."
"Yeah but, that thing only shows up in the night! What then?!" Your hands shot up to rub your own scalp. Calmly, Herobrine walked over to you. He placed a large, gentle, affirming hand on your shoulder. Then, in a flash of white light, you suddenly were home. Not just that, but in your bedroom too.
"..I say it's big enough for the two of us." Herobrine shrugged. Your face figuratively caught on fire, staring down at the bed, partially terrified.
"W- wa-wait! Y-y-you mean we SLEEP together!?!"
"Just until we catch the bad guy." Herobrine chuckled, knowing that time would never come. "If the nightmares come, just wake me up...if I am not up already. I'll take care of the rest." He spoke so softly.. so calmly.. it was a relief to hear over the screaming sounds of your internal panicking. His hand then reached out, asking for your approval of this.
"...You... promise.. not to touch me in my sleep..?" Blushing, your eyes gazed up into his. A little smirk slipped into his face.
"...Now why would I do that..? ..No, I won't. At least not intentionally." He agreed and hen admitted. "Just don't be the kind of person who kicks in their sleep, and I won't have to." A tired laugh exited his mouth. You chuckled too...then yawned. Looking back down at the man's hand, you grabbed it. You shook it.
The two of you then climbed into the bed, which was a little wider than a twin sized one. Herobrine sat up as you slipped into a tired sleep.
'Not sleepy?' You asked with your mind, since your mouth was too tired to open.
"No... Just want to make sure they don't return right after we settle down.."
"Mm..." You quickly drifted off to sleep, surprised by how comfortable you felt with him at your side. After he was sure you had fallen deep enough into a quiet sleep, Herobrine laid down right next to you, pulling your body closer to his very gently, since waking you up would be easier now... And simply lay there in bliss. It was a difficult process, but, the reward was sweeter than any other. Kissing your forehead, forcing himself to pull away from it after only a second, Herobrine knew he now had exactly what he wanted.
Only one thing left to do before he could have you forever...
