chapter 12 - under construction building

- third pov -

on jo can't believe her eyes, "dad." the first thing the man sees is his daughter on the other side of the door.

she immediately embraced him, close and tight to herself while sobbing at the affection she's feeling.

they are still hugging eachother while the others ran out one by one. "are you okay? are you hurt?" everyone else aren't really paying attention to a little conversation they're having.

- y/n's pov -

i sat beside mi jin on the small stairs in front of the door. i saw her frowning a little, i could guess that it's from joon yeong. she have both elbows on her lap when i took her left hand and hold it. she turned her head to me as i sent her a

"are you kids okay?" we all turned to the father and daughter when hearing this question. "yes." "good--cheong san." her father called the boy standing beside her. "mr.nam" they hugged eachother.

mr.nam patted his back while pulling away from the hug. "can you all run?" we all stood up to pay attention to what he gonna say including me and mi jin, still clasping our hands together.
"yes." "yes."

"good. if you go through the tennis courts and the construction site, you'll reach the mountain." he explained while pointing at our right. "go over the mountain and get to yangdong-" "mr.nam!" cheong san shouts at the zombie running towards us.

mr.nam quickly ran toward the zombie, grabs one of their leg, flip them over and break it easily. "woah." i gasped.
"kids, run!" he yelled. "shit."

we started to run when we saw more zombies found us. me, mi jin and ha ri run in front with the others behind. "run, hurry! to the tennis courts!"

we're still running our way up to the tennis courts near the building we just got out from. i'm still holding mi jin's hand, didn't bother to let go of her hand.

didn't realize that we are now close to the courts' entrance. "run! go inside!" everyone sprint inside the court when ha ri shoot some arrows to the zombies behind us before one came from beside her, knocking her down.

me, mi jin, su hyeok and mr.nam ran back to pull the zombie off of her. she's not bitten yet. i pull her up and drag everyone inside including myself. "get in!" mr.nam closes the door behind him before the zombies get in. there are so many of them.

"run!" "hey, hold on!" we stopped at the sight of more zombies on the other side of the court, behind the fences that kept us away from them. pink vested girl fell before su hyeok helps her stand up. "we can't go out there. we can't." heavy breathes are heard inside the court. "what should we do?"

"damn it. we're screwed." we began to panic even more when the entrance door in front of us are unlocked. zombies running inside. "hey!"

mi jin pulls the edge of my shirt to keep me close. all of the zombies got even closer. we step forward to kill them as much as possible with the weapons we have on ourselves. mi jin stabbed one of the zombie that fell before backing off. i pull her back and walk towards to help the others kill them.

not long after that, mr.nam lights out a flare and hold it before throwing it away to distract the zombies with the sound it makes. "let's go." we ran to the exit behind us.

su hyeok opened the door and we began getting out, waiting for mr.nam and his daughter to follow us out. "cheong san, take on jo with you." we heard her father order to cheong san.

i finally know her name, it's nam on jo. "dad, where are you going?" he ignored her question and walk off while pulling out a whistle. "dad!" blowing the whistle as loud as he can taking all the zombies' attentions.

su hyeok ran to them to help cheong san hold on jo back, she kept trying to get them off of her to approach mr.nam but she couldn't. "dad!" she repeats.

on jo's dad lights out another flare and throw it just like before, playing with their attentions before he light the last flare and threw it to the right. "get out! go out now, run!" he punched the zombie running to him before he fell with another zombie on him.

su hyeok and cheong san are back inside helping mr.nam, "go!" he's running out with su hyeok and cheong san before he close the door in front of him, locking himself in there. "dad." everyone step closer to him. "look at me on jo, run."

more zombies coming from our left. "run! go!" he shouts, all the zombies behind him are now bitting all over. "on jo, run." she saw her father getting eaten alive in front of her.

my breathing started getting worse with what's happening right now. "nam on jo, run!" su hyeok and cheong san began grabbing on jo to run. mi jin quickly took my hand and dragging me away with the others.

i'm getting too tired from all of this. all we do is running, trying to survive with the minimum things around us. i don't even know how i still have the strength to do all this shit.

soon, we found the under construction school property, we ran inside when i heard ha ri throwing some archery stuff that was on her. "hurry!" me and park mi jin are running at the very front of everybody. i can hear everyone's breathing gets even heavier. "no!" we stopped running when we heard nam ra screamed. "what? why?" dae su asked her when some sounds the zombies are making were heard. "go upstairs! go!" my eyes are widened at the look at some zombies wearing construction uniforms appear.

i quickly pull mi jin's archery jacket to run to the second floor of this building. "hurry! to the second floor!" we are now running behind everyone, following them up to upstairs.

"where do we go?" we are now on the second floor searching for a way out around the room. "there is no way out!"

"this way!" nam ra shouts at the perforated window with a blind over it. we rapidly ran to her. "is there a way?" i peeked under the window to see a platform on it. "let's go out this way." "the bench!" they took the bench that was sitting beside the window for a place to jump. su hyeok climbed out first to help everybody else climb.

we jump out one by one, ha ri jumped down before my turn and with mi jin following behind me.

after a few seconds, everyone's on the platform. we're safe, for now at least.
i heard some of us are gasping for air. "stay away from the edge." said cheong san to the vested girl. i still don't know her name. "okay."

"come here." dae su gestured for her to approach him. "quiet, don't say a word." said nam ra. she said that in not just telling people to be quiet. once again, it's like she knows something no one else does.

i turned my head from nam ra to onjo, she's still shaking from what happened earlier. the poor girl lost her father few minutes after she saw him. i saw on jo looking at the ground before she squat down to grab one of the weldable hot-rolled steel as a sign of wanting to kill the zombies and cheong san grabbed the steel from her hand and quickly throw it away.

on jo began to sob before she broke down to the ground crying. ha ri curled her hand over her while putting her hand on her mouth to not make any sound. the groaning zombies are heard from here, sensing the sound on jo made.

i turned my head to mi jin, "i'm tired." the sun started to feel hotter and hotter, the voices around me started to slowly disappear, i started to feel so hard to breathe. i can't utter more words while i feel my sweat dripping even more. "what is happening to you?" that's the only thing i heard from a woman's voice before my vision goes black.
