I called him the second I got home. He answered on the very first ring.
"Hello?" a grainy voice answers on the other side of the phone.
"It's Betty, the girl from the park."
"Oh my god! Betty! I didn't think you would actually call," he says, and I can hear the smile in his voice. "You know, I was thinking about you."
"You were?" I ask, taken aback.
"Yes. Yes I was. Do you know why, Betty?" he questions.
"No...why?"
"Because you're beautiful, that's why."
I blush, covering my mouth as I grin. "Wow," I whisper into the phone. "No one's ever called me beautiful."
"Why wouldn't they? Betty, you are beautiful. And I mean it. And yes, I know it sounds weird coming from someone you just met, but, you know."
I nod, but then realize he can't see me nodding, so I say, "I guess so..."
"Now, I have to go. Is there any chance I can see you again, Ms. Betty?"
"How's tomorrow at the ice cream parlor on South street?"
"Perfect. Two o'clock. See you there, Betty."
"Bye, James. See you tomorrow," I say with a slight bit of lust added to my voice.
I hear him exhale as if laughing, and then he tells me, "Goodbye," and hangs up.
