I looked around at the faces of all of the soldiers, all of them smug. Some of them pointing at Alby and laughing.
I couldn't believe them, who did they think they were? I knew WICKED had been corrupted, but I never thought that it was this bad.
"What do you want?" I jumped up and ran towards the man who had fired the gun.
From close up he was a lot smaller, shorter than me, and that's saying a lot since I'm one of the shortest people in the Glade. But somehow he gave off an aura that screamed 'I'm better than you at everything.'
"Ooh," the man chuckled along with the other men behind him. "Little girls got some spunk don't she?"
I glared at him, "tell me why you're here or leave us now," I growled.
The men just laughed.
"Remember what I just did to your friend behind you?" He pointed to Alby who was still clutching his leg. The bullet had only grazed it, but that didn't mean it wouldn't hurt. "I could do much worse to you in an instant. I could kill you right this second."
It was my turn to snicker, the entire Glade went silent.
"You wouldn't dare. Do you know who I am?" I laughed again, this time louder. "I'm currently the only thing keeping you in particular from going past the Gone. Without me, this whole Glade would've gone insane by now."
The man just stared at me and began to lower his gun.
"That's right," I whispered, but it was so quiet that my whisper seemed to be a scream. "I know what I am. And I know why WICKED wanted me so badly."
Everyone was staring at me, no made a move to speak.
"Now why are you here?" I asked again, this time more calm. "Answer or I'll reverse the affects of my strange power-thingy."
I bit my tongue, hoping that he didn't catch on to the fact that I was lying about the reversing part.
"The backup plan is in place," the man said. "You never got out, but you kept them all sane for an extra few weeks. We're taking you straight to a new place that WICKED likes to call Paradise."

It was awkward in the hours that followed, us suddenly having to become friendly with the people who had just shot Alby and laughed at him screaming in pain.
We were all sent to gather the few clothes we had and bring along as much food as we could carry. No one knew what it was like, but apparently Paradise was a place that had never been touched by any humans. That meant no fields of food or weapons to protect ourselves.
I didn't know what to think. Were they tricking us or is the place they call Paradise real?
"Do you have everything ready?" I looked up from my bag to the doorway, where Newt stood with Thomas and Teresa behind him.
I nodded in reply and stood up. Newt walked over and slipped his hand in mine as we walked out of Homestead for the last time. I couldn't stop my ears from burning at the thought of all of the Gladers seeing Newt and I holding hands.
"They've known for a while, love," Newt whispered in my ear, making me jump.
"What?" I asked, dumbfounded.
