Two: Silence

Daniel sat back, laying his head on his desk, the vibration of a chair scraping against the floor, caused him to jump, a light whimper from his lips going unheard. He could see the teacher's lips moving as a short, blonde haired girl stood from her seat, a notebook in hand. He squinted through his thick glasses to see "Ophelia Rogers" written in neat cursive, a little doodle of a cat next to it.

He smiled, she was a decently pretty girl. Her hair was long, bangs just barely covering her eyes, which he noticed were a gorgeous emerald green. Daniel turned to his sketchbook, sitting on his desk. He grabbed a pencil and began sketching the gorgeous girl in the front of the class. 

Suddenly, every student turned to face Daniel. He looked up from his papers and startled, hiding behind his sweater. 

"You okay?" he noticed his best friend, Adam Cheroff, sign to him. 

"Why is everyone looking at me?" Daniel signed back. 

"Intros"

Daniel stood up, slowly making his way to the front of the class. Everyone's eyes were glued to him, their snickers and insults going unheard. He grabbed the piece of chalk off the base of the chalkboard.

 "I'm Daniel, I cannot hear." Daniel wrote down, his hands shaking, causing his handwriting to fault. He looked around the room, a sturdy hand shoving him off the platform. He turned around and attempted to read his lips.

"Get down, freak"

Daniel slunk to his seat, hiding in his seat, picking up his pencil and continuing to scribble the base lines for the girl named Ophelia's hair. He looked up to see everyone leaving the classroom. Daniel turned his head to see Ophelia bent over, picking up papers off the ground. She looked so sad.

Daniel rushed over, leaning over to pick up the papers. Ophelia's mouth gaped ever-so-slightly. She grabbed a paper and scribbled "thank you", offering the sheet to Daniel. He nodded, sucking in a breath and throwing away the pages of insults, rushing home to help his mom unpack things at home.
