"No no, it's okay." You mutter softly, looking around the room. Plants that you've never seen before litter the room, ones with large leaves, small leaves, round leaves, sharp leaves. All are green, ethereal, glowing in the large bay windows of the side of the house.
A generic dark blue couch with a modern cough has pillows thrown lazily about, of which the green worm tries hastily to correct.
"Oh my god." You say, jumping a little bit when you see the worm's back. "What is on you?"
"Yikes." The worm appears to wince. "Perhaps a rude way to ask, but they are plants! Succulents, to be specific. Does that ring a bell?"
You've heard that name before. You know you have.
"Are all of these plants from my world?"
"Yes, they are! All are from there, which makes it a pain to figure out what they need here." The worm chuckles. "Is it nitrogen? It might be nitrogen, but I have nobody to ask! That's why you're here, my dear! I can help you remember where you came from, and in exchange I get some knowledge." The worm's eyes glint with something a little eerie.
You nod, knowing this is not your place to make a deal. Trilo had already done that.
"Well, what do you need with them?" Trilo asks, and you notice him standing awkwardly by the entrance.
"Ah, Trilo, you can come in too! Do not be shy, you've been here before! It's the same old place every time."
"Yes, yes." Trilo moves stiffly to stand next to you.
"Alright! Sit, sit, I will bring tea!" The cheerful worm scampers off, and you and Trilo sit down.
"They're a bit eccentric." You remark, Trilo chuckles.
"Only a bit?"
"You know what I mean." You smile, meeting Trilo's eyes. Trilo looks away.
"So, they seems to know something about where you came from."
"Yeah. This might be my way home."
"You... don't seem very excited. Why is that?"
"I am not sure," You sighed, "perhaps this world has grown on me. It's only been what, like three days? I've lost count. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed my time with you, Trilo." You speak softly, a small smile on your face. This time, Trilo holds the look for longer.
"Alright folks, I have tea!" The green worm speaks cheerfully, carrying an ornate tea tray that seems to stand out amongst the otherwise modern room. "I brought a few different types, I hope one will be to your taste."
"Well, what is the taste of them?" You inquire.
"Unpredictable, but if you smell the blends it may give you a clue as to what they will be of." The worm speaks.
"I'll take the one on the left." Trilo asks. The green worm gives him a cup with it in a small metal tea strainer, again foreign in this environment.
"What is your name? I have just come upon a realization that I have not asked about it before."
"It is of no importance. What is your name, dear?"
"I believe it is Y/N. What is it like without a name? Do your pronouns get lonely?"
"Well they do still have defining adjectives, don't they?"
"I suppose that they do." You say, the worm handing you a cup. "Well, what am I to refer to you as?"
"Whatever you would like, dear! It is of no importance, really. This will be a short visit, anyways." It is upon them speaking this that you remember you are here on business, and see the tray only contained two teacups.
"Yes yes, of course."
"Well, I will be right back after I grab a few things. I do have some semblance of order in this house regarding notes, at least. I'll see what I can find that is relevant to our meeting today." The worm nods to you, standing and walking briskly from the room.
"Once again, we find ourselves alone again." Trilo speaks softly.
"I suppose we do. They do have a rather infectious energy, don't they?"
"That they do." Trilo mutters, taking a brisk drink of tea before setting his cup down and leaning into the chair. "This whole thing seems a bit strenuous, but he seems lonely. Perhaps this will do good for us all."
"Like you're any better?"
"I never said I was any less lonely, dear Y/N. Perhaps there is a reason people flock together to live in their towns and villages."
"There are benefits and grievances anywhere, perhaps living in the woods better suits you and him. Besides, the ruckus would be horrible in a city!"
"I suppose." Trilo responds, a sigh coming from him.
Despite it all, your face feels like it's sagging when you relax and lean back, your body heavy yet not physically exerted. The plush cushion beneath you seems almost consuming as the dread of your situation settles over you once more.
A/N: I am stalling because I do not know how to produce a satisfactory amount of closure for the end of a chapter, so this is the best I can do. I do hope you will bear with me.
