Following the tall, fluffy figure in front of you, you travel deep into the forest. The foliage starts to change into darker colors, deep blacks and greys intermixed with lighter colored such as lime green and white, even purple. Nothing was familiar anymore in this part of the woods.

Long, multicolored vines hung low from trees above, appearing almost fuzzy. But as you reached to touch one, Trilo stopped you.

"We leave those alone." He says softly, before guiding you forward once again.

"Trilo, whatever is the matter with this part of the forest? It seems much different," you look around at the dark surroundings, an uneasy feeling building in you, "and not a very good sort of different."

Trilo sighs, "well, Y/N, it's complicated. However, I can assure you it won't hurt you as long as you are with me. This tends to be someplace I do not travel to, but I feel it beneficial to show you." He looks at you, straight in the eyes, and you maintain eye contact for a moment until you look away. "Trust me, it's for the best. The creatures here will not be friendly to the likes of you."

As he turns away, you feel a pang in your chest. No matter how much you wish or deny, you will not be a part of this world. You need to go home, and Trilo knows this too.

But you couldn't help yourself but admire his shiny, fluffy coat, his wiggly nose, those beady eyes that were just as dark as the void. He marched on ahead of you, his cloak whipping behind him as he starts to pick up his pace.

"Why are we rushing? Shall we not enjoy the scenery around us?" You ask, frustrated at his urgent actions interrupting your thoughts.

"No, Y/N, we need to walk quickly," he says, as the trail starts to turn around. "We want to be home as soon as possible." He takes something out of his pocket on a silvery pink chain, opening it up and you see it is some strange sort of pocket watch. "It's getting late, we don't want to be here much longer."

And right he was. You got back to the cabin during sunset and spent the rest of the night listening to the noises of the creatures outside, so unlike anything you had ever seen before.

"Trilo." You say, a soft smile gracing your face.

"Hm?" Trilo doesn't look at you, still having his nose in a book.

"Do you have anything to cook? I'd like to make something for us for supper." That gets him to look up. If he had eyebrows, he'd be raising one.

"What's the occasion? You're my guest, you need not do anything of the sort. But in addition, you don't know how this world works yet. Cooking, you may find, is much different than what I suppose you are used to." He shuts his book, standing up and extending a hand to you. "Would you like to learn? I'd be happy to give you lessons."

You feel yourself warm in spite of yourself. You smile, taking his hand and following him to the kitchen area.

After a quite interesting experience cooking, you both eat your supper, the food also like nothing you'd ever tasted. It gave you a sensation familiar of eating something bitter, but it was sweet. It was like eating the smell of artificial strawberry, and you weren't disappointed.

"This is great, Trilo!" You smile at him, and he, you assume, smiles back as best he can.

"Happy you like it, N/N." He murmurs softly from across the table.

"Whatever did you call me?" You flush and he looks startled as he looks at you again.

"Y/N, my sincerest apologies! I didn't mean to call you N/N, it just slipped out." He adverts his eyes, staring down at the table.

"Trilo, please, it's fine. I don't mind it." You say. "If anything, I like it! I do think it's pleasant." You look down at your food, returning to eating.

"Oh. Well, if that's okay, N/N, I'll keep calling you that." His fur seems to turn a bit purple in the light from the room.

Speaking of the light in the room, what was it made of? The candles were waxy and rainbow, reminding you of ones you had seen in your world.

"Those are wax candles, N/N. I'm not sure if you had something like them in your world, but they come from gungle snucks in this one."

You snort. Trilo looks at you with confusion.

"It's nothing, just a strange name for a creature. The names where I come from are very different." You smile at him, attempting to assure him that you aren't judging him or his world in any way or manner.

"Very well. Now, may I take your plate?" He says, extending his hand to you once more, seeing you had finished eating.

"Yes, thank you, dear Trilo." You do a small sort of bow in your seat, before looking around the room. "But, wherever am I to sleep?"

"You can sleep on the couch, or I have a guest room across from mine downstairs. There's also the attic, although it's not quite the coziest. You may do whatever you wish." He waves at you from the sink, where he washes the dishes before putting them away on a drying rack.

"Thank you. I'm eternally grateful for your graciousness." You murmur, standing up and going over to him. "Do you mind showing me to the guest room?"

Trilo straightens up, turning around and looking at you.

"Yes, certainly." He leads you over to a small trapdoor in the floor by the back door of the cottage, a small ladder extending down to what you presume is the lower floor. Despite the small entrance, the floor is the usual size, comfortable and cozy. A rugged floor sits beneath your feet, wooden walls surrounding you from all sides, painted with earthen tones more similar to your world than anything else.

It makes you reminiscent, but you don't know why.

But it's comforting.

And you think you want to stay here for a while.
