THEA DIDN'T HESITATE for a second.

She could hear the sound of Fury's body being thrown against the wall and crumpling to the ground but she lept off the edge of the building without another thought. Terror seized her heart as she saw Bex's motionless body plummeting towards the concrete ground and she threw out her arm. A blast of energy shot out, a blazing wing curling around her arm and desperately spiraling downward. It was faster than gravity itself, zipping past Bex's body and spreading out in a brilliant shower of sparks.

She should've fallen onto the wing but instead, her body disappeared in a million blue pixels, out of sight.

Thea's gasp was choked as her body fell onto the wing. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, her breathing ragged and labored as she looked around desperately to try and find Bex. She couldn't find the strength in her to look down on the ground... it wasn't possible, she disappeared. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw innumerable fleets of green and white drones soar from the floor she had jumped off of.

The wing began to lower her to the ground but suddenly something rumbled from the distance like soft thuds of thunder. Thea's concentration faltered and the barrier disappeared halfway in the air. She fell harshly onto what seemed to be a staircase, her cries choked as she fell down each step for what seemed like an eternity until she finally landed face down onto a concrete surface. Her scarred palms stung as she tried to push herself up but she stopped short as a shooting pain throbbed in her leg. Thea curled inwards, hissing sharply as her hand clamped over her calf.

"Bex?" she called in a voice raw with confusion. Her eyes darted around rapidly, the vast darkness hurting her eyes. "Peter?"

Her voice echoed once, twice, repeating the panicked words for three long heartbeats. Her eyes dropped to the face of her watch where a thick crack stretched across the face. Shit.

She barely caught a glimpse of the white-and-green bodies of the drones before a barrage of bullets exploded from them. One narrowly scraped her shoulder, tearing the black of her riding dress and causing her to choke back a cry of pain. Thea raised her arms, summoning hot tongues of fire to rise at her side, and lowered them with a gasp, sending a tidal wave of flame toward the invisible fleet. She shut her eyes tightly as showers of cinder and ash rained from above.

Once it was safe to open her eyes, she conjured a ball of fire in her trembling hand for a light and took a wary step forward. The clacks of her boots resonated around her.

"I'm very proud of you, Maegya." Beck's voice commended—or taunted— from somewhere. His voice echoed everywhere but no matter where she tried to look, Thea couldn't see him. It was so dark, he could've been standing in front of her, an invisible predator closing in.
