"-...doot...doot...doot...doot...-"

The small sound echoed through the otherwise silent room.

It came from one of the many machines lined up near the bed.

Multiple tubes trailed down and attached to the small figure lying in the white sheets.

The only sign of life coming from his chest, slowly rising and falling in a silent rhythm.

Sunlight spilled through the window that was beside the bed, slowly creeping closer to his pale face.

Orange hair rested on the pillows, longer than it had ever been.

The sun finally reached his closed eyes and they flickered for a brief second.

"Good morning Kageyama-kun," The receptionist didn't have to look at him to know who he was,

He came here almost every day after all, "Anything?" He asked the same question he always asks.

"There was a minor spike in his heartbeat earlier, but it only lasted a few seconds and there were no other changes." Kageyama nodded, he didn't bother getting his hopes up anymore.

"You can go in now, the doctor has finished her checkup." He bowed his head and walked slowly down the hall.

Heading for the door at the end, room 102.

He reached the door and went inside, he didn't bother hesitating outside.

Today was one of the better days, other days he could barely stand to see His face. A year is a long time after all.

Kageyama carefully placed the sunflower in the vase on the bedside table before sitting down, his hands reaching and holding onto Hinata's.

It still wasn't easy looking at him, Hinata had changed so much in a year. His hair was longer, he had dark shadows under his eyes and his skin was still as pale as ever. But Kageyama could never get used to the empty spot where his left leg was meant to rest,

they'd taken his arms out of the casts a while ago but he still knew that one of them would forever be unable to move...

"Hey Hinata.. I bought a sunflower, You said they were your favourite, and I finally managed to get one.." He swallowed, trying to imagine what his reply would be.

"..everyone misses you, they want to come to see you sometime," Like every other time there was nothing. Not even a flicker of movement.

"I miss you, a lot. It's hard to focus when we play volleyball... I see you everywhere, whenever I set I see you and-" Kageyama took a breath, refusing to start crying.

He looked down, tapping his foot. A habit that he seemed to have picked up and couldn't quite shake, "fuck... it's hot in here."

Standing up he walked to the window and slid it open, staring out at the blue sky, it was a perfect day. Not a cloud in the sky with a light breeze rustling the tree leaves,

"Kageyama-kun..?" He jumped and turned around, blinking in the sudden change of light. "It's been an hour." The nurse smiled gently, standing at the door.
