and then my phone rang

i jumped away, the moment ruined

my mom was calling me? she never called me.

i looked back at abigail

"shit, sorry i have to.. take this."

i picked up, bringing the phone to my ear

"mom?"

"hello evalyn, i wanted to check in on you, how are you?"
she didn't know i was on the trip.

"i'm fine, watching tv in the living room, like usual."
abigail looked at me, seeming confused.

"what are you watching?"
