Chapter 4

“What? I can’t go on a spy mission now! You have to find someone else! Glassiar? Elemento? Anyone! And I definitely will never, ever, ever take Ruby on a mission with me!” I shrieked at the top of my lungs as I went into my room and slammed the door.

“Would you like to be cut from the Spy team?” asked my Spy manager, in a calm voice compared to my hyperventilating yelling. “That would be a great shame and disappointment, considering your parents were Spy Idols.”

“Ms. Flame, you wouldn’t cut me. You know that,” I replied.

“Try me, Ms. Jewel,” Ms. Flame said to me in her robotic sounding voice. Doesn’t she ever get angry, annoyed, or flustered?

“Ms. Flame, I’m sorry,” I said in a softer voice now, feeling slightly ashamed and annoyed that I was being compared to my parents, a thing I hate greatly.

“If you were really sorry you would be here for Spy Meeting now,” said Ms. Flame in a rude tone.

“Oh my goodness, I completely – wait, what?” I confused.

“Did you not hear? Spy meeting has been changed from tomorrow to today!” said Ms. Flame, shocked that I had not heard.

“No I didn’t!” I said defiantly. “I’ll be there right now!”

“No need. I’ve sent Elemento to get you, and Ruby.” Added Ms. Flame in a bored tone. “He should be there soon. In the meanwhile, pack your things because I do not know how long this mission is, nor do I care whether you want to go on it or not.”

“Yes Ms. Flame,” I added in a false tone, rolling my eyes in frustration. I cut the call and shouted towards Ruby’s room. “Ruby! Come here at once with a notebook! And don’t even think about touching the doorknob!” Soon Ruby was outside my bedroom door.

“Yes Sapphire? What is it that sounded so urgent?” she asked, probably anxious that I might yell at her some more.

I opened my door. “We have a Spy Mission to go on. We have to pack our things fast! At least five Spy suits, a winter suit, three pairs of boots, two spell books, food, snow boots, power-up drinks, and this.” I listed slowly as Ruby wrote down everything in her red sparkly doodle notebook. “I will allow you one more thing.”

“Can I carry my Fire Pup?” Ruby asked me as she watched me pack up some shoes. “Hey! How come you don’t have snow boots in there?” she interrupted curiously, as I began to answer her last question.

“Because I’m an Ice Specializer. I am naturally cold.”

“Oh,” she commented.

“And you do not even have an animal. If you’re talking about Frirre, I had Elemento look after you last time I went on a Mission and he told me that there was no animal in the house.”

“What? When?” inquired Ruby, staring at me in disbelief and dropped her pen. She quickly bent down and picked it up, embarrassed about her clumsiness.

“Two years ago,” I sighed sadly, as I began shoving my bodysuits into a pink suitcase, expecting Ruby to walk away.

“Where’s my suitcase?” asked Ruby, surprisingly still standing there, sucking the tip of her pen that matched her notebook.

“In the storage room. Go ahead and get it. Punch in your name and password, then press your item.”

“Okay. What’s the password?” asked Ruby, beginning to annoy me, but I really had to try and hold in my anger.

“How should I know! I didn’t make it, you did!” I exclaimed irritably as Ruby embarrassedly smiled. Finally, Ruby left. I heard buttons being pressed and a suitcase being dragged out. I was glad that Ruby did not mess anything up with that.

I was almost finished packing when I got a message on my Spy Screen from Elemento saying that he was outside.

‘I hope that Ruby’s done packing,’ I thought as I closed my suitcase and picked it up.

As I made my way down the stairs, I saw Ruby sitting on her solid cooler, waiting for me. She waved her list with everything checked off, a beaming smile upon her tanned face and cherry-red cheeks.

“Good,” I said as I inspected Ruby’s list and suitcase, being careful not to accidentally touch anything.

We went outside to the Elementomobile and put our luggage into the trunk, where everything disappeared.

I hopped into the front seat and Ruby went into the back. Elemento smiled and pressed a button that transported us directly to the spy headquarters, no driving included, thankfully so I would not have to put up with Ruby’s ranting on the drive.

‘I wonder if he knew what I was thinking?’ I thought as I watched him. He watched me back with a grin, which I took to mean ‘yes’.
