As it was the summer holidays for Cassey, she spent all day at the nursing home. Cassey arrived at the
nursing home at 7:30 as usual, she makes her way down the passage way to Shirley's room to wake
her up for her breakfast at 8:00 she stops at the door and quietly opens the door. Cassey whispers into
the dark, warm room, "good morning Shirley." Cassey is greeted with croaky "morning Ca." from
Shirley's bed. Cassey makes her way across the room to the curtains on the other side of the room and
pulls them open to reveal the early morning ray that dance through the windows. Spilling light onto
Shirley's crumpled tissue like face. Shirley had never quite been very good at waking up in the
mornings, but Cassey was used to her shenanigans she was no longer fooled when Shirley called from
her bed, "five more minutes Cas, just let me rest my eyes for slightly longer. Please?" But Cassey was
no longer fooled by the 'five minute' scheme. So Cassey just responded with a, "Well, I could let you
sleep a bit longer. But then you might miss the pancakes I hear they are making for breakfast today."
This definitely got Shirley's attention. Cassey knew that this was Shirley's favorite breakfast, Shirley
had quite the sweet tooth, Shirley's favourite type of sweet was sour worms, she said they reminded
her of her childhood. Soon enough Shirley was up and ready to get dressed. Cassey always helps her
get changed so as to make sure she doesn't fall or something while putting on pants, but some
movements in general were slightly harder for Shirley to do. Even though Shirley is a very
independent women, she secretly highly appreciates when Cassey helps her get dressed, although she
would never admit that she wants or needs help getting changed. But this morning Shirley was
struggling slightly more than she usually does, she seemed to keep wondering off, and then forget
that Cassey had just asked her what top she wanted to wear.

But Cassey wouldn't dare say anything, as Cassey had made that mistake before, one time Cassey had
asked Shirley if she was ok after she had randomly dropped her teacup for no apparent reason, but all
Shirley replied with a flushed and embarrassed face was, "I'm fine, just give me a tissue to clean this up. Stop
worrying so much Cas." But her just wondering off in her own thoughts and forgetting something
Casey had just said concerned Casey a lot more than her just dropping a teacup in the floor. So,
Cassey said, after some consideration of how to word it best, "Shirley I am just a bit concerned for
you. You keep on wondering off into your thoughts and forgetting what I am asking you. Are you
ok?" Shirley replied with, "Cas, I am turning 84 in one month what do you expect. My memory won't
always be perfect, it will start lessening at some point." But Cassey couldn't just ignore these fairly
disturbing symptoms so replied with, "yes, yes. I know that, but please just go get some brain scans
done just to give us both piece of mind. So I don't have to stress about you as much." Shirley knew
how much Cas cared for her, and she just wants to not have to worry, so she gave in and replied with,
"fine, but just because you insisted, and I love you." "Thank you" replied Cassey. Cassey eventually
managed to pull together a outfit for that day, after many discussions on wether Shirley should wear a
blue dress with white spots or a pink blouse and grey pants. They eventually agreed on the blue dress
with the white spots, as they felt it was summer after all. Shirley had a shower, while Cassey prepared
the outfit. Once Shirley was in her dress, Shirley and Cassey made their way to the dining room.
Where they Shirley enjoyed some very good pancakes with honey, while Cassey had some fruit salad
she had packed from home.
Once Cassey finished her fruit salad she went to go and book and coordinate going to the hospital for
the brain scans.
