"Something's wrong..." She sobbed. The desperate cry shattered just hearing her broken voice. This wasn't Alice. This wasn't my Alice at all. Alice was strong, not because I expected her to be, but I was the crybaby. Watching her fall apart wasn't something I was used to seeing.
Fearful of seeing her like this, I was consumed with urgency as I embraced her tightly because I didn't know what else to do. Hoping in some way, if I could hold her tightly, the fears and doubts she'd concealed would absorb into my body and become my own. I'd take away every inch of her pain and suffering. "Tell me how I can fix this." I implored frantically.
Alice's hands released the sheets and covered her ears, "-the voices. Taehyung. Make the voice stop. Don't leave me. Please don't leave me alone." she cried. Although I was worried about whatever bad things were happening with her mind, I obliged her request and pulled myself together. Alice always remained strong for me and fought every battle in the playground for me as children, the very least I could do was stay by her side forever.
My hands clasped over hers, "Go away, bad voices and leave my angel alone!" I pouted and nudged my face closer to hers. "Look at me, Angel," I whispered.
Alice's diamond eyes flickered back down to the sheets and my eyes, locking onto them as if in a staring contest. "Taehyung..." Alice breathed. I finally took a deep breath as the voice leaving her lips sounded more aware of her surroundings. I nodded, letting my hands drop to pinch and squish her cheeks. "That is I." I smiled, encouraging her to return a similar gesture.
Alice's chest rose and fell carefully before closing her eyes. When they reopened, the colour surrounding us became clear again, as if the quality had heightened from 140p to 4k. A smile returned mine as a gentle apology left her lips. "Sorry I worried you," she mumbled. Her voice sounded drained, and when I touched her forehead, it was laced with sweat, but her temperature was average.
Tannie scurried up his ramp and bounded playfully between us, "Are you worried about me? I'm okay; look all fine now. Just a bad night's sleep, that's all." Alice comforted our fur-baby by stroking his long fur while awaiting a response.
My arms scooped Tan and carefully put him to one side before carefully embracing Alice in my arms. "I don't know what that was, but don't do that again. I'll always be worried for you. You feel okay now, right?" I asked. Alice slowly sat back and parted from my embrace. Alice's eyes flickered to Tan, who was sitting in a huff to being excluded from the cuddle, and a laugh escaped her lips.
The loud snort that escaped her delicate lips eased my heart—such a goofy smile for such a beautiful face. Though I was one of the rare few people blessed enough to hear such sounds, I soothed my hand through her long hair and smiled at her blissful state. "Has this ever happened before?" I asked her. Despite how badly I wanted to continue to revel in her laughter, I knew we needed to avoid such occurrences again.
The laughter muted within the room, but there was no uncomfortable atmosphere, just a numbing silence surrounding us. "Never." She answered. I paused in thought before asking my next question, "Do you think the move triggered this? We're around each other a lot more than we used to. Are we aggravating our incomplete bond?"
Alice opened her lips to speak panic behind the silver iris' before she stopped dead in her sentence; something was in her eyes that held her back. Something she didn't want to confess, but I couldn't lay my finger on what exactly it was. Tell me, please... I pleaded, but such words could never escape my lips. I trusted she would tell me anything I needed to know.
My eyes admired the slow movement of Alice swallowing her secrets; she shrugged, "I don't think it's the move. I'm not sure what it is, but I know I don't want to feel like that again. I think I might move some things around in my schedule and visit a specialist." she suggested. I nodded in agreement, knowing I didn't want her to experience such emotions of despair again.
