What is up with that guy? Geez, yesterday he seemed pretty decent, he seemed pretty nice. But now, he just seems like such a jerk! He probably just smooth talked his way into getting a dance for last night. Seriously.
I stormed through the village, trying to get home as soon as possible, partly because I was in a bad mood, and partly because I didn't want to let Tío down by letting the fish rot.
"Y/n!"
"Camilo I swear to-" I mutter under my breath.
The sound of footsteps rushed my ears as each one got closer and closer.
I turn around to face the owner of the sound. "Mirabel?"
I looked at the short female. She looked happy and energetic, nothing like how she was yesterday. Hell, if you saw her, you probably wouldn't even think that this girl had just suffered from a mental breakdown the night prior.
"Y/n hey, uh hi!" She stumbled awkwardly.
I sigh. "Thank god it's just you."
She laughed lightheartedly, "Yup, just me. What's up with you? We're you hoping not to see someone else?"
"Kind of. Your cousin has me in a bad mood." I groan out, dragging my words.
"Camilo?" She deadpans.
"Uh yeah, how did you know?"
"Antonio and Dolores would never annoy a nice civilian."
"Pfffft, 'civilian'. That sounds so fancy."
"Not really, anyways, there's something I wanted to talk to you about."
I raised a brow at her, "Okay.. hit me."
"Well I talked to Dolores about the candle. And she said Luisa might know something."
"Luisa? That's kind of random. I would have expected Abuela or one of the other adults."
"Right? I thought that too. But apparently not. Anyways, I've been trying to talk to her about it, but.. she's been busy.. with chores.." her voice trails off.
"All week? Everyday?" I question.
"Yeah.. but tomorrow I get a chance to talk to her since we're having a family meeting? Or lunch supposedly."
"Uh huuuuuh..?"
"And well.." she's inhaled sharply. "I don't want to do this alone and you're the only one who believes me and I was wondering if you'd come join us for lunch so we can talk to her and maybe hang out?.." she talked extremely fast, but I caught all of it.
"Sure."
"Really??"
"Yeah why not?"
"Well I don't know.."
"I'll go as long as I don't have to sit next to that cousin of yours."
"That can be arranged."
~
The next day, I went over to the famous Madrigal Casa.
~
I lean forward to knock on the door, but it bursts open without me even touching it.
The second eldest grandchild, Dolores, stood holding the door. Her eyes were wide, yet she held a small smile on her face. "Your Mirabel's plus one?"
I nod.
"Come in, the table is being set up. Mirabel should be in the back with everyone else." She steps aside so that I can walk in— which I do.
I walk through the oversized house and find the entrance to their even larger backyard. I looked around. The whole town could be seen from the backyard and the mountains surrounding the Encanto could be seen too.
"Woah.." I say as I admire the scenery around me.
There was a large table sprawled on the grass. It had many chairs and many of the Madrigal members were doing their part in setting up the table for lunch. One of them being Mirabel.
She was carrying stacks of plates in her arms and didn't seem to notice me— well, nobody did, except for Dolores.
I walk over to Mirabel and grabbed some of the plates from her hands. "Ay carambas, why do you carry so much? I was sure you would drop these plates."
Her eyes widen, "Y/n?? Sorry I didn't welcome you in, I'm guessing Dolores..?"
"Yup, it was Dolores."
"I figured. But thank you."
"No problem"
We set the plates in front of each seat. Soon it was time for everyone to sit down and eat.
I sit next to Mirabel and at the end of the table. Right across from me sat the one and only : Camilo Madrigal.
Oh great.
