We walked into and through the factory. It was already unsettling. Right off the bat, there were what looked to be metal cages with broken parts inside. I saw robotic faces, arms, limbs, and more.
It was also very dark. Most rooms were only occasionally lit with one hanging lamp providing just enough brightness for us to see.
The first hallway was fairly straightforward, leading to another small vent, which One pulled open. He allowed me to go in first, then hopped inside behind me. We crawled through there for a while, when the vent led to what looked to be some sort of hospital room, with old beds lining the walls. Now it was REALLY dark. Like, it was practically pitch black in there. And since we were inside, the moon wasn't able to provide us with any light.
I hopped out, making a small thump sound as I landed, which echoed through the silent halls.
"I've got just the thing for this," One breathed, hopping down behind me and fumbling through his pockets, pulling out a flashlight, flicking it on, and pointing it out in front of himself so we could both see more clearly.
Dang, his pockets were deep. I mean, his jacket was really big, so he had a lot of pockets, but he seemed to have something useful for every situation.
He shined the light around the room, looking at the hospital beds. They were bigger than the beds at the lab as if they weren't made for children, but adults. I wasn't sure if that put me at ease or made me more afraid. The atmosphere was also so eerie. I found it very uncomfortable and wanted to leave as soon as possible.
"I don't like it here..." I trailed off, grabbing One's arm and making myself smaller, holding onto him tightly.
"It's going to be okay," He whispered back to me in a gentle tone as he carefully shined the light in front of himself and continued forward. It was so silent and empty there, but so big as well. "This is factory was originally intended for making pixls," One explained in a hushed tone as if he was afraid that someone else was listening.
I hesitantly nodded. "O-Okay. B-But all the pixls are gone, right?"
"Yeah." He whispered. "We're safe. There's no pixls left as far as I'm aware. I'm pretty sure they were all destroyed."
I let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness. I was done with people chasing us. I couldn't wait to finally get home and be safe.
Plus, when I got home, I could finally show my dad my cool blobby powers, and he could hug me and tell me he missed me! Then, One could bring back the sun and make everything happy! Who knows, maybe after that he could come to visit! And maybe... just maybe... if One wanted to, I could convince my dad to let him stay, and we could spend our days in the sunshine together, finally safe.
Maybe my life could be good.
There were a lot of empty chairs, boarded-up doors, and empty beds in the factory, which is weird because why would machinery need a bed? It's not like they could feel... right?
I wasn't one to judge. I had no idea how mechanics or pixls worked.
The factory was also very long, filled with a variety of different hallways and rooms. If it weren't for One guiding me, I would have most definitely gotten lost. There was an unlocked door which he had to stand onto his tiptoes to open. Then, once it was opened, he rushed inside the next room.
It was a room similar to the one I saw in the abandoned house we went in before the lab. An empty room with nothing but an unbroken mirror.
Uh oh...
And here is the second time I ever encountered his powers.
One rushed inside, then paused, looking at his reflection again, just as before.
